At Community Horizons, we are on a heartfelt mission to empower individuals and families throughout Central Wisconsin, and we're looking for a dedicated Housing Counselor who shares our passion. This role goes beyond a job; it transforms lives by helping our members find their way to safe, suitable housing. Many of those we serve face daunting income challenges and the specter of homelessness, and as a compassionate housing counselor, you will be their guiding light.

In this role, you'll embrace a series of fulfilling tasks that reflect your commitment to our community:
- You will work closely with each member, guiding them in obtaining, completing, and submitting their rental applications with care and empathy.
- You will listen, collaborate, and engage with members and external agencies, like rep payees, to help them understand their budget and find affordable options.
- Your consistent communication will weave a safety net of support around our members and their support teams.
- You will document every service and support you provide, ensuring that each step.
- You'll assist participants in building networks of support, opening doors to resources that can change their lives.
- Your hands will help members gather essential documents—like Social Security cards, birth certificates, and income verification—reminding them that they are not alone in this process.
- You will actively seek out available housing options, forging connections with landlords and advocating for the preferences of our members regarding location and necessary modifications for accessibility.
- By networking with agencies, you will uncover the resources that can lift our members toward independence and stability.
- You'll shed light on tenant rights, empowering members to advocate for reasonable accommodations and modifications that make their living situations comfortable and dignified.
- Your ability to build trusting relationships with local landlords, agencies, and community organizations will create a web of support that strengthens our community as a whole.
To thrive in this role, you will need:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, enabling you to connect deeply with each member.
- An unwavering goal-oriented mindset, fueled by a profound passion for helping others achieve their dreams.
- Impeccable organizational skills, as you balance the needs of multiple members with grace and efficiency.
- Strong time management capabilities to stay focused and meet the milestones that define success in this labor of love.
- A minimum of five years of experience working with frail, elderly, or disabled populations, ensuring that you bring a wealth of knowledge and compassion to your role.
- Familiarity with Section 8 and HUD housing programs, giving you the expertise to navigate the complexities of our housing landscape.
Although this position is based in a home office, expect to travel throughout Portage, Wood, and Waupaca Counties, meeting our members face to face and offering invaluable hands-on assistance as they navigate the sometimes overwhelming application process.
