JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Store Manager shares responsibilities with the Store Manager for overseeing all aspects of the day to day store operations while providing a high level of leadership and customer service. To promote and manage a positive and productive work environment by providing clear communication and fair and timely feedback. Maintain financial records and other reports as required for management. Run and maintain all aspects of the store, in the absence of the store manager, including but not limited to, maintaining sales, conducting volunteer and worker interviews, prompt submission of time sheets and consistently maintaining standards throughout the store.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for Donation Acceptance. (Product flowing into the backroom) Require and teach staff to greet all donors. Require and teach staff to determine if donations can be accepted. Separate donated items into categories when appropriate. Require and teach staff to ask if donor needs a receipt for their donations and to THANK donors for supporting Community Hospice. Control the work force in back area ensuring they are being productive. Keep outside donation area clean, safe and aesthetically pleasing at all times.
  • Responsible for backroom organization and productivity. Control high value items (antique furniture, collectables, jewelry, etc.), keeping the flow of these types of items moving directly out to the sales floor or into a secure spot for manager to research. Ensure backroom is a safe environment to work in and everyone is productive. Keep product separated by type as much as possible with space available. Walk the sales floor daily to determine what categories need to be processed. Communicate the need for new bins, gaylords, pallets, dump runs, etc., with Logistics consistently to ensure proper product flow. Maintain a clean and safe backroom work area at all times.
  • Responsible for Product flowing to the Sales Floor. (product flowing out of backroom) Assist, require and teach staff to determine value of donated merchandise. Walk sales floor daily to determine which departments need the most merchandise. Direct, delegate and follow up with staff to keep a constant flow of new product moving out onto the sales floor daily. Control the work force in back room ensuring they are being productive. Quality control – ensure the merchandise is appropriate for the sales floor i.e.; clean, not broken, etc. Consistently monitor pricing to get the most value out of donations. Communicate with Logistics and/or the Director of Retail Operations for merchandise needs.
  • Responsible for assisting with the handling of daily cash receipts, balancing and depositing monies in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Drive sales by delivering exceptional customer service. Lead by example. Drive Customer Service through teaching staff the importance of consistent customer service. Require and teach staff to smile, be friendly and helpful.
  • Ensure store remains clean and all displays are neat and orderly. Institute visual directives needed to maintain company standards of product layout and sales floor organization. Delegate with checklists and follow up for completion.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships and open communications with management, staff, volunteers, other workers, community businesses, and other agencies.
  • Follows all organizational policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safety, infection control, privacy and confidentiality, including HIPAA.
  • Open and close store as required following the proper procedures. Refer to store checklists and the Cash Handling Policy #6-005.
  • Assist with processing paperwork for CSP, AARP, WEX, E-Waste, Schedules and Payroll. Complete safety walks with new employees.
  • Maintain a professional appearance consistent with company dress code policies.
  • Other duties as assigned, including work in other areas to cover absences or relief to equalize peak work periods or otherwise meet the needs of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Retail experience preferred.
  • Computer skills desirable.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Positive professional attitude with sensitivity to the nature of hospice work and clients served.
  • California driver’s license and auto insurance.
  • Good organization skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position works in a retail store environment which includes warehouse type receiving area.

WORK SCHEDULE: This is a full-time position. Days/hours may vary and could be consecutive days up to 8 hours per day, with occasional overtime as needed, to maintain the production processing requirements of the position.
