Street Outreach Program Counselor provides outreach services to run away, homeless, and other high-risk street youth; serves as a referral source for services that provide food, clothing, transportation, medical and dental, housing, vocational training, academic or GED programs; provides informal and street based counseling; provides supervision of youth during drop-in hours; maintains detailed documentation of client activity; may be scheduled to work evenings and weekends; attends mandatory weekly program meetings.
Essential duties include Provide outreach services and outreach counseling for runaway, homeless, and other high-risk street youth. Develops and implements plan of outreach services to run away, homeless, and other high-risk street youth. Assist with the development of contacts with all appropriate referral sources including those that provide food, clothing, transportation, medical and dental services, housing, vocational training, academic or GED programs. Compiles necessary documentation of client activities and data collection such as monthly stats, and quarterly reports. Acts as a liaison with law enforcement and social services providers in the community. Provides informal counseling and helps arrange individual and family in-clinic counseling for street youth when appropriate. Supervises youth in facility during drop-in hours. Provides safe transportation for clients when appropriate. Facilitates weekly drop-in breakfast and dinner for youth. Works collaboratively with other counselors and staff.
Minimum qualifications include Bachelor’s Degree in counseling, psychology or social work. Requires resourcefulness and flexibility in working with a diverse population of clients. Ability to work with and build relationships high-risk youth and their families. Required to function within defined limits, subject to direct and detailed instruction, but must be able to work responsibly and spontaneously in an outreach setting. Must have two years’ experience working with youth in the counseling; psychology or social work field. Ability to transport youth. The equivalent combination of education, related experience and/or personal recovery may be substituted for the above. A valid California driver’s license and insurance are required.
Job location: Salinas or Monterey
Salary $51,891-$63,075/per year D.O.E. Additional 5% if Bilingual (E/S). Generous benefits package including dental and vision coverage. AA/EOE.
