Job Overview
As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with diverse needs, including those with autism, dementia, and other developmental disabilities. Your primary focus will be to provide compassionate care and support in both home and community settings, assisting clients in achieving their personal goals and fostering independence.
Duties
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Provide personal care services while ensuring the dignity and respect of each individual.
- Support clients in developing social skills and engaging in community activities.
- Monitor and document client progress, including vital signs and any changes in behavior or health status.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's unique needs.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance clients' well-being.
- Administer first aid as needed and respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and other caregivers to ensure comprehensive care.
Skills
- Experience working with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of home health care practices and principles of direct support.
- Proficiency in assisting with ADLs while promoting client independence.
- Familiarity with first aid procedures and the ability to monitor vital signs effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships with clients and their families.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for providing care to those in need.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment while also being self-motivated.
- Previous experience in dementia care or nursing is a plus but not required.
