Job Summary:
Is responsible for the total operation of the delicatessen when the deli manager is not on duty. He/she will assist the deli manager in areas such as ordering, pricing, sanitation, supervising employees, training new employees, merchandising of the delicatessen case, gross profit, payroll and scheduling, and sales. Must be Food Safety Certified.
Major duties:
The assistant deli manager will be in charge when the deli manager is not present and will be scheduled shifts opposite the deli manager.
Maintains courteous and friendly customer relations.
Achieves gross profit through proper department operations.
Monitors and scans product labels.
Periodically reviews display case for proper merchandising of product.
Follows opening and closing department procedures as documented.
Monitors waste and shrink (proper markdowns and conversion to salads).
Orders all merchandise and supplies.
Receives and checks deliveries for both condition and accurate quantity.
Is trained in making pizza, party trays, salads, and sandwiches.
Inventory control; quarterly physical inventory.
Records and prepares weekly department information during deli manager’s vacation and other days off.
Follows regular cleaning schedule.
With management’s assistance, supports department promotions and programs.
Cooperates with other store operations.
Schedules employees considering SPMH budget and daily business.
Minor duties:
Evaluates employees assigned to her/his responsibility.
Operate stock dollies, mixing machines, slicers, ovens, scales, fryers, pricing equipment, and use knives and case cutters.
When necessary, waits on customers in bakery.
Sell, weigh, package, and price product
Operate hydraulic baler
Follow recipes
Perform freshness checks and re-condition product
Perform sweeping, cleaning, and mopping functions
Prepare, stock, and merchandise product
Keep company recipes confidential.
Date and rotate product
Operate telephones and intercoms and practice proper telephone etiquette.
Follows and implements all company policies as outlined in the employee handbook.
Performs other duties as assigned
Relationships: Reports to Deli Manager. Works with the company department supervisor. Supervises deli clerks.
Qualifications:
Read and write.
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
Follow verbal and written instructions.
Provide verbal and physical assistance to customers and employees.
Lift and stack up to 50 pounds.
Pull or push wheeled vehicles weighing up to 500 pounds.
Reach and stock product up to 6 ft. high.
Must possess basic computer skills
