Responsibilities And Duties
- All dispensing functions
- Compounding and preparing ordered pharmaceutical preparations, including irrigation solutions, intravenous additive solutions, and chemotherapy as required using aseptic technique in the appropriate environment.
- Contacting and conferring physicians if there are any questions or irregularities regarding medication orders.
- Monitoring patients’ drug therapy as required, in regard to drug therapy.
- Maintaining patient profiles.
- Filling and checking medication cassettes
- Completing patient charges if necessary – “charge on chart”.
- Making computer entries as required.
- Supervising inventory levels as required.
- Filling employee prescriptions.
- Consulting with physician and nursing staff concerning availability, form, side effects, and incompatibilities of currently available drugs.
- Participation in the pharmacy department's anticoagulant consult program, including ordering medications and ordering and monitoring required lab work.
- Participation in the pharmacy department's aminoglycoside pharmacokinetic consult service including ordering of medication and ordering and monitoring of required lab work.
- Maintaining inventory and records of narcotics.
- Organizing daily operational activities. Pharmacy interns and pharmacy assistants are under the supervision of pharmacists
- Additional duties as may be assigned, such as nursing unit inspections, Inservice education, etc.
- Pharmacists will take turns "on call" when pharmacy department is not open.
- Attend in-service programs.
- Discharge Counseling
