Description
The student intern is a position for college students who will graduate from their accredited nursing or surgical technologist program within one year of the intern session. The intern will perform tasks and/ or operate equipment used in the nursing and surgical departments and provides assistance to staff by rendering specific treatments in addition to basic care of assigned patients. The Intern performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties under the direction and supervision of an assigned Registered Nurse preceptor and the unit Manager.
Qualifications
Education:
Must have completed the first and second cohort of the nursing or surgical technologist program from an accredited or approved school with planned completion within one year of the internship. Must be in good academic standing in program, above a 3.0 GPA. CPR certification is also required.
- Prior Work Experience:
One (1) year of clinical experience. - Skills:
Must be able to perform nursing or surgical technologist skills and use equipment within scope of practice, under the supervision of a certified or licensed preceptor. Excellent time management and organizational skills are very helpful. Requires excellent communications skills, both oral and written, as well as being computer literate.
- Independent Judgment:
This position handles confidential records and interprets written and verbal instructions, under the supervision of the preceptor.
