What are the responsibilities and job description for the Unit Secretary/ED Tech position at Community Memorial Hospital?
Unit Secretary:
- Communication: Serves as a central point of contact for ER Providers, staff, patients, and answering phone calls and relaying messages. Manages unit emails including printing, posting or communicating requests as directed.
- Transfer and Transportation: Assists the Provider and nursing staff with transfer phone calls as directed including contacting transfer center/bed management, assisting with checklist and assisting in EMS transfer arrangements.
- Administrative support: requests patient health information as directed; maintains patient physical chart and including lab results, radiology and other. Assists with discharge and transfer paperwork including printing educational materials, forms and admission/discharge folders. Maintains documentation packets, prints downtime forms.
- Scheduling/coordination procures patient appointments per provider request.
- Quality and safety: Collect data as directed by charge RN/Director of Inpatient Nursing. Performs designated inventory and outdate verifications of designated medical supply systems.
- Assists with patient care as directed by CRN/staff: Directs patients and visitors to appropriate rooms; delivers personal items, provide support to nursing and medical staff as needed including transport, stocking supplies and responding to patient inquiries. May function as 1:1 sitter as needed
- Maintaining confidentiality handles sensitive information with discretion adhering to privacy regulations such as HIPAA.
- Problem Solving: assists in maintaining workflow to promote patient satisfaction.
- All other duties within scope of practice.
ED Technician:
- Patient registration
- Obtain consent forms (e-script, RHIO, portal and treatments)
- Assists Physicians and Nurses as required
- Placement of patient in room and gowned as needed
- Weigh all patients in route to the treatment room
- Clean stretchers/pick up treatment area after patients are discharged
- Take and record vital signs in EMR:
- Collect specimens within scope and deliver to lab PRN.
- Stocking rooms, IV trays, lab supplies, gloves, bathrooms, oxygen supplies
- Patient care including toileting patients, baths, and ambulation
- EKGs including assisting with outpatient EKGs prn
- Answer telephones and call bells
- Perform 1:1 sitter duty as assigned for suicidal, confused or intoxicated patients
- Order supplies according inventory lists and put them away when they arrive
- Perform purposeful hourly rounding to facilitate fall prevention
- Promote comfort measures like warm environment and privacy by closing doors/curtains.
- Report all concerns about a patient to the nurse or provider in charge of patient
Experience
Preferred- Nursing Assistant or MOA
Education
Required- High School or better
Licenses & Certifications
Required- BLS
