CMHA is looking to hire a Child and Family Support Specialist for our Extended Day Treatment Program. This position will be located in 255 Bank St. Waterbury, CT 06702. Mon.-Fri. 8:30am-4:30pm.
Compensation Range: $20 minimum to $29 maximum.
Salary will be determined based on relevant years of experience.
Position Summary: The EDT Child and Family Support Specialist (EDT-CFSS) serves as an active member of a multidisciplinary team that provides assistance and support to facilitate client’s behavioral, emotional and social development and learning within an intensive therapeutic milieu setting. This includes co-facilitation of daily social and emotional support interventions as well as the utilization of trauma-informed and attachment-based behavior de-escalation strategies. The CFSS will also provide case management services to children and their families in the EDT program, both in office and in the community, who are in need of additional wrap-around support. Case management services may include treatment planning, advocacy, linkage, referrals, and crisis intervention.

- Assists clinician in the development and daily execution of therapeutic activities that meet the clinical objectives of each child in the program.
- Work as part of the treatment team with the assigned clinician, providing assistance to both youth, families, and treatment team members.
- Utilizes effective behavior management skills to de-escalate crisis situations and minimize harm or injury to clients and staff to ensure a safe environment for all program participants.
- Closely monitors location and activities of clients to further minimize risk.
- Provides case management services, such as arranging transportation, communication with schools, pediatricians, DCF, juvenile court, and other social service agencies.
- Provide or monitor transportation to children as needed.
- Maintains accurate documentation and submits within program and funder timeframes.
- Maintains appropriate caseload as determined by CMHA and funder.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in social worker or related counseling field required or eligible experience and an Associate’s Degree or in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in related field with a minimum of a High School Diploma.
- Valid CT driver’s license and ability to provide own transportation.
- Certified in Mandt, First Aid and CPR (or obtained within three months of hire).
- Bilingual/Bicultural preferred (English/Spanish/Portuguese) and knowledge of cultural values, traditions, and practices of the communities we serve.
- Experience working with children and family systems.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with youth with social/emotional/behavioral difficulties; or comparable education and/or internship experience within a human service-related bachelor’s level program to compensate for lack of work experience.
- Beginner to intermediate experience Microsoft Office products including Word and Outlook.
- Experience in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Bilingual/Bicultural preferred (English/Spanish/Portuguese) and knowledge of cultural values, traditions, and practices of the communities we serve.
