Position Summary: Under the supervision of the appropriately credentialed individual, the student intern/practicum student will be an active part of a multidisciplinary team that provides outpatient assessment and clinical treatment services to adults who present with a wide range of significant behavioral health needs and substance abuse issues. Treatment is aimed at assisting individuals by helping them develop the skills necessary to improve their quality of life.

Treatment is aimed at assisting individuals by helping them develop the skills necessary to improve their quality of life.
- Performs comprehensive intake assessments that results in diagnosis and recommendations for psychiatric and substance abuse treatment for children, adolescents, adults and/or families and assists with appropriate referrals and linkage to other services, if appropriate.
- Develops treatment goals and objectives with clients. Utilizes evidenced based treatments and appropriate treatment modalities (individual, family, group, couples) that promote the amelioration of psychiatric symptoms and/or substance abuse and behaviors exhibited by clients.
- Evaluates client risk on an ongoing basis and formulates and implements appropriate safety plans.
- Collaborates and coordinates with external agencies such as schools, PCPs, DCF, probation, court and other social service agencies.
- Maintains accurate documentation that is submitted within program and funder timeframes.
- Works with a multi-disciplinary team, in consultation with supervising clinician, attending and presenting in clinical team meetings.
- Completes all placement requirements established by agency and University (i.e. # of client, supervisory and training hours).
- Other duties as assigned
- In pursuit of a Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral degree in a clinical discipline such as psychology; social work; counseling; marriage and family therapy.
- Demonstrates desire to work with children, adolescents, families and adults with serious behavioral health issues
- Demonstrates beginner to intermediate experience with Microsoft Office products including Word and Outlook.
- Experience in, or the ability or willingness to learn how to use an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system which includes appointment scheduling, authorization tracking, assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and discharge summaries
- Valid CT driver’s license
