CMHA is looking to hire a Full-Time 40 hours per week Junior Budget Analyst. This position will be located in New Britain, CT (Mon - Fri 8:30am - 4:30pm).

Compensation: $57k minimum to $76k maximum per year.

Starting salary will be determined based on relevant years of experience.

Position Summary: This position provides budget and analytical support to the Controller for day-to-day activities related to budget development, utilizing the organization’s past performance of funds allocation to ensure current and future budgets have the most effective, efficient allocation of financial resources throughout the organization. There will be significant interaction with program staff requiring clear communication on budget development and monthly actual performance against budget, including documentation of variances. Responsibilities include grant reporting, general ledger journal entry posting, salary and fringe allocation analysis, budget preparation, budget revisions, preparation of data for grant requests, and grant reimbursements, while utilizing a control mindset within a highly regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a thorough understanding of grant contracts to ensure compliance with grant requirements, financial reporting, expense allocations, reallocation of resources, etc.
  • Prepares grant financial reporting detail, analyzes actual to budget variances providing clear explanations and suggests actions to correct variances going forward, prepares interim budget revisions outlining changes from original budget, completes data input and reconciliation in CoreCT system.
  • Analyze budget to assess current expenditures and accuracy of the organization’s planning for expenditures. The analysis includes assessing the status of budgetary goals and direct future decision-making on the organization’s projected revenue and expenditures.
  • Request Federal payments over the grant term in the Payment Management System reconciling actual expenses incurred to previous grant payments received.
  • Works in conjunction with Controller to collaborate with program leaders to ensure they understand budget development, monthly expenses they control vs. those allocated, alignment with budget, and complete ad hoc reporting.
  • Prepares salary and fringe detail and departmental allocations.
  • Works with the Controller to prepare annual operational and capital budgets.
  • Prepares and enters assigned general ledger entries and posts in financial software.
  • Assists with assigned duties to support monthly financial statement close and reporting schedule.

Requirements

  • Valid DMV License.
  • Beginner to intermediate experience with Microsoft Office products including Word and Outlook.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  • Minimum of 1, preferably 2-3 year's budget experience including responsibility for budget reporting, data analysis, variance analysis, general ledger entries, audit support, and maintaining adequate controls.

Preferred Experience

  • Nonprofit experience preferred.
