We are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated full-time and part-time Montessori Lower Elementary Teacher to join our amazing staff.
Position Overview:
We seek a full-time or part-time experienced Montessori Lower Elementary Teacher who will provide a nurturing, hands-on, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 6-9 (grades 1-3). The ideal candidate will be committed to the principles of Montessori education, fostering a love of learning, and promoting independence, responsibility, and respect in their students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Delivery: Design and implement engaging, age-appropriate lessons in core subjects such as language arts, mathematics, science, and cultural studies using Montessori principles and materials.
- Individualized Learning: Assess and track each child's academic progress, offering individualized support and challenges as needed. Create personalized learning plans that cater to the diverse needs of all students.
- Classroom Management: Cultivate a positive, inclusive, and peaceful classroom environment that encourages collaboration, respect, and independence. Foster social-emotional growth and problem-solving skills.
- Student Assessment: Regularly assess student progress through observation and informal assessment methods. Provide student feedback and communicate with parents regarding their child's growth and development.
- Montessori Materials: Utilize Montessori materials to support hands-on learning and ensure that materials are maintained and updated as needed.
- Collaboration: Work closely with fellow Montessori educators, the lead teacher, and other staff to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
- Parent Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with parents, providing updates on student progress, classroom activities, and any concerns. Participate in parent-teacher conferences, parent education, and school events.
- Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with Montessori methods, best practices, and child development research.
Qualifications:
- Montessori Certification: Montessori certification from an accredited program for Lower Elementary (ages 6-9), such as AMS (American Montessori Society), AMI (Association Montessori Internationale), or equivalent.
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience teaching in a Montessori classroom, with a strong understanding of Montessori principles, practices, and curriculum.
- Passion for Education: A deep commitment to the Montessori method and a genuine passion for fostering the growth and development of young children.
- Skills: Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of educators, parents, and students.
- Character: Compassionate, patient, and dedicated to the well-being of each child.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with multi-age classrooms and the ability to meet the varied needs of children in the 6-9 age group.
- Understanding of child development and ability to apply that knowledge in the classroom.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to engage with children at varying physical levels, including sitting on the floor, moving around the classroom, and assisting with physical activities.
- Occasional light lifting and ability to move Montessori materials and shelves as needed.
- Ability to hike on light terrain on paths through the woods.
