The Community Music Center of Boston, an arts education nonprofit with a mission to transform lives by providing equitable access to excellent music education and arts experiences, is seeking a motivated and student-centered private cello instructor on Wednesdays and at least one other weekday to continue instruction for current and new cello students.
This is a great opportunity for candidates with demonstrated teaching experience who are looking for community, growth opportunities , and a compensation structure that also includes paid administrative time and paid professional development opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a inclusive and culturally responsive teaching style that reflects CMCB's three curricular pillars : Musical Artistry, Social-Emotional Development, and Cultural Inclusion. Additional teaching opportunities are available for candidates with the ability to play and teach multiple instruments and / or candidates who are interested in teaching in the public schools.
Status : Regular, part time, hourly, exempt
Start Date : January 2025 or ASAP
Schedule : In person, Wednesdays 2 : 30PM - 7 : 30PM, preference for additional weekday between 3 : 00PM-8 : 00PM (full or partial availability) with room for growth
Specific Responsibilities
Private Studio Management and Retention
- Teach students according to curricular guidelines
- Prepare students for and encourage participation in performance events and opportunities
- Organize at least one studio recital during the school year
- Complete attendance in registration software accurately
- Maintain open and regular communication with parents / caregivers and students via email to support educational progress

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the person in this position must be able to to remain in a stationary position 50-75% of the time. They need to occasionally move around the space to access teaching supplies and instruments. They must also converse with students in a normal classroom setting and discern and recognize changes in tone, pitch, rhythm, and volume. They may occasionally move or transport supplies and instruments up to 10 pounds.
