Development Director

Community Music School, Centerbrook, CT

Part Time: 15-20 hours per week. Flexible schedule combining remote & on-site work, plus attendance at local meetings.

Compensation: $35,000/year

About Us:
Community Music School (CMS) of Centerbrook, CT, is a vibrant nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high-quality music education and performance opportunities for individuals of all ages, abilities, and financial means. With 24 faculty members, 5 admin staff (2 full time and 3 part time), and a dedicated board of directors, the school serves students of all ages along the CT shoreline with a variety of musical opportunities including private lessons on all instruments, musical ensembles, classes, workshops, summer programs, and early childhood music classes. Many programs occur onsite at the school’s Centerbrook campus, with others taking place at neighboring partner facilities. The school’s current annual budget is $650K, with approximately 22% coming from contributed revenue.

Position Summary:
The Director of Development will lead CMS’s fundraising and donor engagement efforts. This position is ideal for a dynamic, creative, and results-driven professional with a proven track record in nonprofit fundraising. The Director of Development will report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with the Board of Directors and staff to grow contributed revenue according to goals outlined in the school’s new three-year strategic plan.

Key Responsibilities:

· Fundraising Strategy: In partnership with the Executive Director and Board, develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan to reach goals outlined in the 2024-2027 strategic plan, including annual appeal, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, and planned giving programs.

· Donor Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors, ensuring a high level of engagement and stewardship.

· Grant Writing: Identify and apply for grants from foundations, government agencies,
and other funding sources.

· Event Planning: Oversee planning and execution of fundraising events, including benefit concerts and community engagement activities.

· Data Management: In partnership with office staff, maintain accurate donor records and
ensure compliance with all reporting requirements.

· Collaboration: Partner with staff to develop compelling fundraising materials and campaigns.

· Board Engagement: Collaborate with the Board of Directors to leverage their networks and
support fundraising efforts.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, or a related field (master’s preferred).

· Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit development, with a proven track record of achieving fundraising goals.

· Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and engage a wide range of stakeholders.

· Strong organizational and project management abilities, with attention to detail and a results-oriented mindset.

· Proficiency in donor management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

· Passion for music and the arts is highly desirable.

Compensation:
This is a half-time position, with classification as an employee (not independent contractor), paying $35,000 per year.
