What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pastoral Care Minister position at Community of The Good Shepherd?
The Community of the Good Shepherd located at 8815 E. Kemper Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45249 is looking for a full-time (40 hours per week) Pastoral Care Minister. The person is this position provides compassionate support and guidance to individuals and families experiencing grief following the loss of a loved one, offering empathetic listening, and funeral planning assistance.
The successful candidate will also manage and oversee the various special Masses at the parish related to this position, along with working with our bereavement volunteers, assisting with the Wednesday evening Anointing Mass, overseeing the home communion volunteers, our prayer blanket volunteers, Parents of LGBTQ support group, and serve as the staff liaison for the various pastoral care ministries.
The specific requirements for this position are as follows:
· Bachelor’s degree preferred, experience in pastoral care required.
· Familiarity with Catholic liturgical norms regarding Rites of Christian Burial
· Ability to work in a collaborative setting with a large pastoral, administrative and support staff
· Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
· Ability to empower and motivate others
· Above average knowledge of the Catholic faith and teaching, especially when dealing with end-of-life issues, and be able to guide families in those decisions
· Have an ability to deal with conflict and controversial subjects
· Must be able to maintain confidentiality as appropriate and understand HIPPA regulations
· Have a high level of independent thought and initiative as needed
· Must have ability to present oneself professionally
· Must be able to visit families in sometimes less than ideal living conditions when visiting homebound patients
· Must be comfortable in a hospital, nursing home or funeral home environment
· Must be a in good standing with the church
This is a 40 hour per week position. The person in this position must be available for funeral calls 7 days a week, including weekends. There are also some evening and weekend events.
