Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Direct Support Professional (DSP) who will play a dual role of providing high-quality support to individuals with developmental disabilities while also supervising staff and handling key administrative tasks. This position requires a unique combination of hands-on caregiving experience and strong leadership and organizational skills.
As a DSP with supervisory and administrative responsibilities, you will ensure that the team meets the highest standards of care while also supporting day-to-day operations through effective documentation, scheduling, and team coordination. Your ability to work both independently and as part of a team will help maintain a positive, empowering environment for both staff and the individuals we support.
Responsibilities
- Direct Support Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized support to individuals with developmental disabilities, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication management, and mobility assistance.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise and support a team of DSPs, providing guidance and direction to ensure the delivery of high-quality care.
- Assist with staff training and development, ensuring that all team members are properly trained on care protocols, safety procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Schedule shifts and manage day-to-day staffing needs to ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to DSPs to foster growth and development within the team.
- Act as a mentor and role model to DSPs, creating a positive and supportive team culture.
- Handle conflict resolution and support the team in maintaining a harmonious and professional work environment.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly documentation for both individuals served and staff, ensuring compliance with agency policies and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of staff attendance, incidents, and any other relevant reports.
- Assist in the coordination and implementation of team schedules, ensuring that all shifts are properly covered.
- Contribute to the development and updating of individual care plans, including progress notes and necessary documentation.
- Participate in meetings with management to discuss program outcomes, staffing concerns, and ways to improve service delivery.
- Ensure all required compliance documentation is accurate and up-to-date (e.g., incident reports, safety drills, training records).
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in direct support services, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional education or certification in human services, social work, or a related field preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficient in using software programs for documentation and scheduling (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, scheduling software).
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory and compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, state and federal laws governing disabilities).
- Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain), and other relevant certifications may be required.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and assist individuals, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
