Community Options, Inc. is a national non-profit agency providing services to individuals with disabilities in 12 states.
We are now hiring a Full-Time Peer Support Partner Specialist in Bergen, NJ. The Peer Support Partner Specialist uses best practices and technologies within a community setting to assist youth with acquiring, retaining, improving, and generalizing the behavioral, self-help, socialization, relational and communication skills needed to enhance relationships, increase independence, and functioning. Targeted approaches will assist youth in regulating emotional and behavioral responses, developing meaningful relationships, and effectively understanding and expressing their needs to the best of their ability, which will aid in the successful transition to less intensive community services.
Responsibilities
- Provide family support, education, and advocacy
- Coordinate resources
- Connect families within the community
- Participate in building support teams
- Ensure family and youth voice is incorporated in all program operations
- All other duties as assigned
- Employee must cooperate with the license and department staff in any inspection, inquiry, or investigation
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of checks of criminal background, central registry, child abuse registry, and drug testing
Minimum Requirements
- Preferred bachelor’s degree in human service or related field with two years of experience providing support to youth caregivers who have IDD and/or mental health needs
- Hold NJ Peer Support Partner certification or has ability to obtain one
- Ability to exercise good judgment and remain calm in crisis situations
- Must have experience as caregiver or primary support person of youth with IDD and/or dual diagnosis
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
- Strong organizational/ record-keeping skills
- Excellent time management skills
