Job Title: Seasonal Grounds Maintenance - Baseball

SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Parks and Parks Grounds Worker, the Community Park District Seasonal Grounds Maintenance – Baseball is responsible for general maintenance of La Grange Park’s ballfields and parks including dragging, raking, mowing, weed whipping, trash removal, litter pick-up, and picking weeds.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years related work experience in athletic field maintenance, landscaping, or related field. Preferred experience using ball field equipment, mowers, light and heavy trucks and a variety of hand and power tools. Must possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License with excellent driving record. Must be at least 18 years or older, team-oriented, flexible, have excellent communication skills. CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required (Park District provides training). Must have a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
SUPERVISOR
This position reports to the Superintendent of Parks and Parks Grounds Worker
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Work individually and as part of a team to perform a wide variety of indoor and outdoor maintenance tasks.
During baseball/softball season performs daily maintenance of sports fields including mowing turf grass, repairing fencing, dragging infields, painting foul lines, sweeping dugouts and tamping pitching mounds as needed.
Operates Park District vehicles, tractors, loaders, and other motorized equipment, including vehicles and equipment with trailer attachments.
Operates equipment including but not limited to bunker rake, mowers, weed whips, pressure washers, blowers, aerators, spreaders, and other miscellaneous power equipment.
Visually inspects work sites and surrounding areas and removes all safety hazards, garbage, and refuse materials on an ongoing basis regardless of assigned task.
Performs daily inspection of bunker rake, mowers and trucks before use.
Looks for and reports safety and maintenance issues to the Superintendent of Parks and/or Superintendent of Recreation.
Assists with Baseball special event preparation, operation and clean-up as required during tournaments.
Performs job safely and in compliance with the park district's policies and procedures, work rules and safety rules.
Wears and maintains all necessary PPE.
Maintains a clean and organized work environment including assigned vehicles, equipment, tool storage area, work sites, etc.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND PROTECTIVE GEAR/CLOTHING
Physical requirements include: good speaking, hearing and vision ability, excellent manual dexterity, ability to lift and carry between 25 and 49 pounds regularly and team lift over 50 pounds occasionally. Anything lifted over 50 pounds must be achieved with assistance (mechanical or team-lift).
Will require working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Will work with exposure to chemicals including fertilizers, weed killers and cleaning agents and paints.
HOURS
Typical hours are 6am-2:30pm (40 hours/week) May 1-September 31. Some weekends required.
