COMPENSTAION: $17.92 per hour


AGENCY DESCRIPTION:

One of the oldest organizations of its kind in the country, Community Partners in Action (CPA) was founded nearly 150 years ago to champion criminal justice reform and advocate for preserving the dignity of those in and out of prison. Through our programs that include reentry and housing, youth initiatives, a nationally recognized Prison Arts Program, and holistic alternatives to incarceration, we provide a long-term impact that positively transforms individuals and society at large. Annually serving nearly 7,000 individuals throughout Connecticut, our work is possible due to partnerships with and support from individuals, government, private funders, organizations, and businesses.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Associate's degree and two years' experience working in community-based projects with emphasis on Human Services or related field; or four years' experience working with community-based projects with emphasis on Human Services or related field. Prior supervisory experience preferred. Some case management experience desirable. Ability to work with diverse populations, while demonstrating cultural competency and community awareness. Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently. Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle a fast- paced work environment. Strong interpersonal skills, written and verbal communications, teambuilding skills and the ability to delegate responsibility and manage conflict in a positive manner. Must be ready and willing to work in an arrangement of different weather conditions and locations. Valid CT driver's license, clean driving record and reliable transportation required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) desired.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

  • Promote a culture of respect, empathy, mutual support, belonging and work to eliminate any unconscious bias or discrimination in our beliefs, rules and systems.
  • Help to develop and maintain community service projects.
  • Implement public relations/awareness activities at community service sites.
  • Coordinate and develop team interaction at community service projects.
  • Assess equipment needs and ensure vehicle readiness based on work sites.
  • Verify and document completion of defendant community service hours.
  • Ensure control of emergency situations; and make proper notifications in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accountability for participant's location/ whereabouts at all times, have knowledge of and implement all agency/program policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records (mileage logs, break logs, equipment forms, vehicle forms, donation forms, referral forms), etc.
  • Maintain standards of professional conduct when interacting with supervisors, staff, court personnel, citizens, defendants, clients, etc.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all defendants engaged in performing community service activities
  • Make appropriate decisions related to the needs of defendants; and ensure appropriate and timely referrals are completed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Maintain agency vehicle by driving properly and obeying all traffic rules and regulations. Ensure vehicle is available for inspections and any maintenance issues are reported to management in a timely fashion.
  • Conveys a positive, professional image by actions, communication and appearance.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, twist, kneel, reach to demonstrate job requirements.
  • Must be able to establish clear limits that allow for safe and appropriate connections with defendants.
  • Performs other duties as required.
