Youth Peer Navigator (Part-Time)
Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP)
Job Summary: The Youth Peer Navigator is a part-time position (10-15 hours/week) intended for youth or young adults currently or previously involved with the YHDP. This role provides peer-to-peer support, advocacy, and navigation assistance to other youth experiencing homelessness. The Peer Navigator will leverage their lived experience to authentically engage youth, assist in navigating housing and supportive services, and promote successful outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide peer-based outreach and engagement to youth and young adults experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
- Assist peers in navigating housing systems, including identifying resources, completing applications, and understanding their rights and responsibilities.
- Serve as an advocate and liaison, helping peers communicate effectively with service providers and landlords.
- Accompany peers to critical appointments (housing, medical, mental health, employment) as necessary.
- Facilitate connections to supportive services such as employment, education, healthcare, and mental health resources.
- Collaborate closely with YHDP staff and community partners to coordinate services.
- Document interactions accurately and timely to comply with program requirements.
- Actively participate in relevant trainings, team meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Lived experience with homelessness or housing instability, preferably as a YHDP participant.
- Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated reliability and professional boundaries.
- Basic understanding of community resources and services.
- Commitment to confidentiality and ethical practices.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
- Position may involve occasional evening or weekend hours.
Employment Conditions:
- Successful background screening.
- Completion of required conflict-of-interest documentation ensuring the Peer Navigator does not oversee their own housing assistance.
Compensation:
- Hourly rate commensurate with experience.
- Eligible for supportive services under YHDP guidelines.
Supervisor:
- Reports directly to the YHDP Lead Navigator
