Description
The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for providing comprehensive speech and language services to students within the school environment. This includes assessments, screenings, and therapeutic interventions in compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines.
This individual provides support to teachers, administrators, and parents, developing materials to aid in school/home efforts in meeting the needs of exceptional children.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Development:
The Speech-Language Pathologist plans, implements, administers, and coordinates the speech-language therapy program.
Assessment and Treatment:
Selects and administers appropriate assessments and treatment methods, develops individual treatment goals and activities, and evaluates the effectiveness of treatment.
Communication:
Communicates effectively in both oral and written form, schedules and conducts IEP meetings, and instructs educational personnel and parents on managing the therapy program.
Training and Coordination:
Plans, coordinates, and conducts on-the-job training for various individuals regarding meeting individual educational needs.
Medicaid and Record Keeping:
Participates in the Fee for Service portion of Medicaid and maintains documentation as instructed, participates in the Medicaid Random Moment Time Study when selected.
Student Files and Program Management:
Maintains student files, including Individual Education Programs, in compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines, and plans and manages the speech-language therapy program.
Screenings and Evaluations:
Organizes and manages screenings and evaluations, contributes to the MTSS process, collects data effectively, and provides meaningful follow-up consultation.
Professional Development:
Attends staff development to maintain current licensure, guards against conflicts of professional interests, safeguards student confidentiality, and performs other duties as assigned.

Speech-Language Therapy Principles:
Demonstrates knowledge of speech-language therapy principles, theory, methods, and their proper application in the educational environment.
Child Development:
Demonstrates knowledge of normal child development.
General Management Practices:
Demonstrates knowledge of general management practices.
Treatment Activities:
Demonstrates skill in providing a wide range of treatment activities.

Physical Requirements
Equipment Operation:
Must be physically able to operate computer software, hardware, cables, and other equipment.
Physical Demands:
Requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, 5 pounds frequently, and negligible force constantly, moving objects and performing light work.
Communication:
Requires talking, hearing, inspecting items for proper length, width, and shape, coordinating hands and eyes rapidly, handling items like computer equipment, differentiating between colors, and shades of color.
Minimum Education and Experience
Education:
Bachelor's Degree required.
Experience:
Minimum one-year school-based experience preferred.
