Interpreter (Bilingual Spanish) – Mental Health Services for Children, Youth and Family Program
Hours: 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
Pay Rate: $26.24 per hour

Program Overview:
Located in San Diego, CA, Douglas Young Youth and Family Services is a children/youth outpatient program which provides services to the Central/North Central regions of San Diego County. We provide a range of services including crisis intervention, individual, family, and group therapy, medication support, rehabilitation, case management and drug and alcohol services while incorporating the family systems and wrap-around approach. We provide mental health services to children and youth with Medi-Cal and Healthy Families Funding as well as those who are uninsured and underinsured.
Typical Duties of the Interpreter
- The Interpreter supports the program staff and clients by providing interpreting services for clients
- Interprets and translates clinical information for the program staff and clients
- Provides interpretation during triage, assessments, group therapy, individual therapy, nursing, psychiatry appointments, and during telephone calls
- Assists with translation of medical records and clinical documents
- Provides general clerical/reception supports to the program as needed
- Depending upon needs of the program and clients, may be expected to provide telehealth services
- Works collaboratively with all other members of the program team
Qualifications/Skills Requirement
- Bilingual Spanish required for this position; must be able to demonstrate fluency in writing, speaking, and reading Spanish
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of one year of experience as a translator or interpreter preferred
- Experience working with children and adolescents with severe emotional disturbance in a public setting preferred
- Excellent phone etiquette, attention to detail, ability to multi-task and maintain confidentiality required
- Proficient computer skills, including MS Office and internet research skills required
- Previous experience in a similar mental health program serving the population is desirable
- Reliable transportation is required to fulfill the essential functions of this position. A valid California driver’s license in good standing and proof of insurance are required for employees driving personal vehicles on company business.
