Position Summary

Manage, develop, and oversee programmatic areas within the Intervention program working through the Community Safety department. Provide direction and guidance to staff within area of responsibility regarding all associated violence prevention and intervention program support functions related to reduction of gun violence in Albuquerque. Manage and oversee program and activities with assigned violence prevention staff and support staff. Plan, assign, schedule, review and evaluate the work of staff to include peer support workers and Community-Oriented Response and Assistance (CORA) Responders. Develop policies in accordance with Local, State, and/or Federal regulations; coordinates programs assigned activities with other ACS division managers, departments and outside agencies. Provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Deputy Director of Violence Prevention and Intervention through the Community Safety department.

This is an unclassified at-will position.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university; and

Six (6) years in social work, public health, sociology, psychology, violence intervention, harm reduction, trauma crisis; and

To include Four (4) years of supervisory experience

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.

Successful completion of a security background check conducted by the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI)

Responder certification and all initial requirements therein within twelve (12) months from date of hire or transfer into position.

Possession of any of the following licenses or certifications preferred: Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) preferred.

Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and on-call shifts as required.

Work under potentially abusive, hazardous or emergency conditions.

Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

Preferred Knowledge

  • Operations, services and activities of social service and behavioral health programs
  • Principles and practices of community program development, administration and policy development
  • Principles and practices of project managementPrinciples and theories of emotional trauma and physical development
  • Principles and practices for linkages and referrals to social services
  • Principles and practices of municipal budget preparation and administration
  • Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
  • Methods and techniques of crisis intervention, mediation, and de-escalation techniques
  • Public safety dispatch operations, radio operation, and multidisciplinary emergency response
  • Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers
  • General understanding of grant programs and requirements
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations
  • Navigation of the criminal justice system
  • Knowledge of local resources and service providers
  • Knowledge of New Mexico mental health laws
  • Knowledge of community violence prevention

  • Analyze and assess programs, policies and operational needs and make appropriate adjustments
  • Identify and respond to sensitive community and organizational issues, concerns and needs
  • Analyze and present operational data and statistics
  • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement
  • recommendations in support of goals
  • Perform SWOTT analysis and develop policy proposals
  • Research, analyze and evaluate new services delivery methods and techniques
  • Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws and regulations
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Address the public and present information in a clear, organized and convincing manner
