Job Title: Middle School Choir Director
Job Summary:
Eighty percent (80%) of all Frankfort Middle School students are enrolled in one of our three music programs. Therefore we are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Middle School Choir Director to develop and lead a dynamic choral program. The ideal candidate will be responsible for instructing students in vocal music, organizing performances, and fostering an appreciation for music. This role requires strong leadership, musical expertise, and the ability to inspire and engage middle school students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and implement engaging choral instruction for middle school students.
- Teach vocal techniques, sight-reading, music theory, and performance skills.
- Direct school choir rehearsals and performances, including concerts, competitions, and community events.
- Select appropriate repertoire that challenges and motivates students while accommodating varying skill levels.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and growth.
- Collaborate with school staff, administrators, and parents to support the music program.
- Coordinate logistics for performances, including venues, transportation, and attire.
- Prepare students for auditions, festivals, and other choral opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and participation.
- Manage choir-related budgets, fundraising efforts, and equipment.
- Stay updated on best practices in choral education and participate in professional development opportunities.
- Coordinate with other faculty and staff for additional performances including but not limited to theater productions, talent/variety shows, etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Choral Conducting, or a related field.
- Valid state teaching certification in music
- Experience working with middle school students in a choral setting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of vocal techniques, choral pedagogy, and music theory.
- Excellent conducting, accompaniment, and rehearsal management skills.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership abilities.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
