Job Title: Middle School Counselor
Job Summary:
The Middle School Counselor is responsible for providing academic, social, emotional, and career support to students in grades 6-8. This role involves collaborating with teachers, administrators, parents, and external resources to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. The counselor will develop and implement programs that promote student success, mental well-being, and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and/or group counseling to address academic, social, and emotional needs.
- Assist students in developing coping skills, self-awareness, and problem-solving strategies.
- Support students in goal-setting, decision-making, and conflict resolution.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to identify and address student challenges.
- Develop and implement programs that promote positive behavior, mental health, and academic achievement.
- Conduct assessments and interpret results to support student development.
- Provide crisis intervention and support as needed.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student concerns and progress.
- Coordinate with external resources, such as mental health professionals and community organizations, to provide additional student support.
- Support the transition of students between grade levels and to high school.
- Maintain accurate records and confidentiality in compliance with school policies and legal requirements.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
- State certification/licensure as a school counselor preferred.
- Experience working with middle school students is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development, counseling techniques, and crisis intervention.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and staff in a diverse educational setting.
