JOB SUMMARY

Under the guidance of the Education Manager, provides leadership, development and supervision to Head Start educational staff to carry out goals, policies and activities in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards and state and federal regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversees the day-to-day operations of three to five sites and provides leadership and direction to staff responsible for providing safe and healthy care for the children;

Models effective teacher and child supervision strategies; mentors teachers to be role models and leaders to their Teacher Assistants; facilitates monthly peer mentor groups;

Reviews lesson plans weekly; reviews observations, newsletters and file documents monthly; reviews checkpoints three times a year; provides ongoing feedback to Teachers;

Conducts curriculum fidelity checks on each classroom three times per year to ensure classroom activities are reflective of creative curriculum guidelines;

Provides training, assistance and communication to education staff on a regular, on-going basis regarding policy, procedures, Head Start Performance Standards, etc.;

Coordinates educational staff schedules to ensure required classroom coverage is maintained; assists with call out procedures when needed; substitutes in the classroom as necessary;

Trains all staff in early childhood development topics, including group meetings and one-on-one training;

Conducts bi-monthly facility safety checks on classrooms to ensure health and safety practices are being implemented;

Supports teaching staff in setting up appropriate learning environments for children based on ECERS plan of action;

Provides child assessment data analysis to teaching staff and completes two outcome data plans for each classroom;

Evaluates the performance of each Teacher after six months of employment and yearly thereafter; develops necessary staff development plans to enhance professional development;

Supports Director with administrative projects such as yearly self-assessment, strategic planning, yearly goals and objectives, school readiness goals, etc.;

Assists educational staff in working with children with special needs and behavioral concerns in collaboration with the Mental Health and Disabilities Coordinator;

Provides hands on role modeling and coaching in the classroom to assist with teacher-child interactions and assists in handling parent concerns;

Reviews and approves classroom budget requests;

Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

  • Knowledge of child development principles and family dynamics;
  • Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills;
  • Capacity and empathy to work with a diverse population, low income families and children, including those with disabilities;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and initiative;
  • Ability to travel to Program and home sites as required;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and data entry applications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college with a major in Early Childhood Education or a related field, including eight Early Childhood Education classes and 2 years full-time teaching experience in a pre-school environment; Master’s degree and familiarity with a nonprofit entity preferred.

JOB REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATIONS

Sheriff’s Card, TB Test Results, CPR & First Aid, Infectious Disease & Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse & Neglect, Nevada Registry, Valid Nevada Driver’s License, and DMV Printout.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to stand, walk, sit, carry, push, and pull; ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; ability to climb and balance; ability to use hands and fingers to handle or feel; vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception; must have ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Normal office environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $53,700.00 per year
