What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intensive Support Specialist position at COMMUNITY SERVICES FOR EVERY1 INC?
We are seeking an Intensive Support Specialist to develop person-centered respite plans that address the needs of people receiving services and their families and advance their respite plan of care. Intensive Support Specialists provide a wide variety of person-centered supports and services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, within the community. A successful Intensive Support Specialist will empower the people they work with by modeling, teaching and advocating for them to achieve their highest level of independent living, enable their fullest participation in society, ensure their civil and human rights are protected and promote their ability to be productive, contributing members of their community.
Intensive Support Specialists work in a full time positions. Shifts are available throughout Erie County, and must have evening and weekend availability.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- must be able to maintain their first allegiance to the people they support by demonstrating respect and supporting the person in daily problem solving skills.
- must provide education, experience and exposure to people served by offering recreation-based activities constructed around the individual’s strengths, interests and needs.
- will help individuals they support to develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with their peers, with their families and with those in their community and will monitor and evaluate program progress and participant satisfaction.
- will complete service documentation in an electronic medical record (EMR) system in accordance with all applicable state and federal rules and regulations.
- responsible for ensuring safety of people served at all times, including providing basic first aid, CPR, or physical interventions to people served when called upon.

Education and Experience
- Five years of experience working with adults with disabilities and complex behaviors; OR
- Associate degree with 3 years of relevant experience; OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Human Services with 1 year of relevant experience.
- Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of developmental disabilities.
- Good oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
- The ability to read and write case notes as well as understand written directions.
- The ability to self-initiate, organize, schedule and analyze tasks.
- Certifications have or obtain upon hire:
- CPR/First Aid certified.
- Full SCIP-R certified.
- Verifications and Screenings
- Be authorized as an Agency Approved Driver by
- Holding and maintaining a valid NYS Driver’s License.
- Maintaining an approved driving record according to Agency Policy and Procedure.

- Physical and Mental Requirements
- Seeing, hearing, walking, sitting, standing, driving, stooping, bending, carrying, stretching, and climbing stairs as well as the ability to perform all required movements required by the SCIP-R curriculum.
- Lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Exercising independent judgment, concentrating, thinking, communicating, interacting with others, managing multiple tasks and coping with stressful situations and deadlines
- Staying awake and alert while on duty.
- WORKING CONDITIONS
- Schedule may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends; schedule is determined by needs of people supported.
- Local travel required approximately 50% of the time.
- Provide services to people supported in their homes as well as in the community.
