Community Impact Coordinator – Colony Place Apartments
Organization Overview:
Community Services League (CSL), founded in 1916, is one of the Kansas City region’s largest social service providers. Through its mission and vision of collaborating on strategies that foster community stability and individual wellbeing, CSL maintains and delivers a variety of innovative anti-poverty programs that help move our community forward. CSL’s programming offers a full suite of case management, supportive coaching, and direct wrap-around services to assist our neighbors in creating stability in their lives and households. We assist individuals and families throughout the metro area, and, largely, our programming is in the areas of basic needs, family stability, workforce development, financial coaching, housing services, and community development.
Position Overview
The Community Impact Coordinator (CIC) provides for an ongoing program of activities designed to meet the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of the individuals that are residents of Colony Plaza Apartments. The CIC serves as a liaison between residents of Colony Plaza Apartments, POAH’s Property Management and any community-based service providers who can assist residents with issues including and beyond affordable housing.
Activities at Colony Plaza Apartments should be designed to build a strong sense of community among residents, encourage relationships among neighbors, provide educationally-, socially- and emotionally-enriching opportunities for the residents, and connect residents to general social services resources in the greater Excelsior Springs area.
Position Reports To: Sr. Vice President of Community Development
Responsibilities
The individual will provide the following services and oversight, and any other duties as assigned by the supervisor:
- Have regular office hours to visit with residents regarding any social services. Ideal candidate will have at least some knowledge of available public or private assistance programs related to housing, medical care, employment, and food or other basic needs.
- Welcome new residents and establish contact with existing residents to explain the community impact programming available.
- Get to know residents through regular conversations, one to one meetings and group meetings. Based upon the needs, dreams and desires of the neighbors, the CIC will build the activity and resource opportunities to meet those needs and dreams. The CIC will create a committee to help plan, organize and assess activities and resources provided.
- Provide an activities program on a daily/weekly/monthly basis, including evenings and weekends appropriate to the needs of the residents. Ensure all residents know about the activities through a calendars and other methods. Activities may include, but are not limited to:
• Group social activities, indoor and outdoor activities, spiritual programs, exercise activities
• Opportunity for resident involvement in planning and implementation of the activities program
• Creative activities such as arts, crafts, music, drama, educational programs
• Exercise activities
• Promotion of facility / community interaction
- Develop and maintain relationships with local service providers that effectively assist residents in maintaining their tenancy and achieving individual goals. Coordinate the activities programming with other community organizations, as available.
- Coordinate the delivery of services from other local social service providers, including on and off-site programs for residents.
- Assess residents’ needs and develop resident activities goals.
- Encourage resident participation in activities and document outcomes.
- Review goals and progress notes.
Administration: accounting for the use of resources per resident, projecting future resident needs, managing resources to maximize the impact for our fellow citizens and stakeholders. Monitor and review contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with contract terms.
- Prepare all necessary and required forms and documents.
- Comply with any and all needed POAH (management company) policies and procedures.
- Coordinate with property manager (POAH employee) about service delivery and outcomes.
- Develop and maintain activity files with all documents verifying program requirements have been met.
- Develop, create, and provide accurate reports in a timely manner as needed to evaluate and/or support proposed projects or programs.
- Establish a plan of ongoing reviews and audits to verify our use of resources.
- To the extent needed, participate in the solicitation of grant, contract, or sponsorship dollars to continue or enhance the work of this position.
Networking: establishing relationships, contacts, and memberships in the service area.
- Establish a plan of ongoing meetings, one-on-one meetings, introductions, lunches, tours for your service area of individuals and groups, and maintain a plan for ongoing interactions.
- Network with local agencies, service groups, elected officials, community groups, churches, local businesses and others in the service area. This includes but is not limited to establishing an email contact list to inform the community of programs, information, and events. It might be regular meetings and lunches to keep the community up to date on the agency activities. It might be a partnership with local media or others to exchange information on bulletin boards, websites, links, etc.
Other: to work as a team with all staff, volunteers, interns, and board members to help CSL achieve its mission – “To partner with our neighbors by collaborating on strategies that foster community stability and individual wellbeing.”
Preferred Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED equivalency and a minimum of two years’ life experience in similar field.
- Familiarity with Excelsior Springs and surrounding communities and their resources.
- Must have experience and the capacity to work with neighbors in a wide variety of life circumstances, from a variety of backgrounds, and with a resiliency-minded lens.
- Working knowledge and understanding of trauma informed, mental wellness principles and practices.
Hours/Schedule:
Hours are flexible, but will need to be set and remain consistent, and coordinated with property manager. It is expected that the position will be 24-30 hours per week, depending on activities. At the onset of hiring, the position may need a few weeks of additional hours to get acclimated and set goals. In addition, special events or resource fairs will require the individual to work some evenings or weekends. This position offices full-time at Colony Plaza Apartments. Employee will occasionally be required to attend staff meetings at a CSL office in Jackson County.
Salary/Benefits:
Salary will be commensurate with experience with a salary range of $15.45 - $20.76. This position does not meet company requirements for health insurance participation. CSL offers a retirement savings plan, with company contributions, that is available after the required tenure is met.
