CSS is a private not-for-profit social/human services agency that initiates, provides and promotes services for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families, within their communities, in order to strengthen their independence, self-esteem and ability to participate in and contribute to community life.
We are seeking a passionate, creative Counselor to join our team. Under the general direction of the Director of Clinical Services the Counselor is responsible for providing counseling/therapy services to meet the clinical needs of individuals enrolled in programming. The outcomes of these services and supports are intended to improve the individuals’ functioning, self-esteem, ability to live independently in a safe and healthy home environment.
Job Summary
Program Implementation:
- Encourage client to express their feelings and discuss what is happening in their life and to help them develop insight into themselves and their relationships.
- Conduct individual and/or group counseling sessions for clients on caseload and complete documentation.
- Act as an advocate to coordinate required emergency problems and crisis situations.
- Assess clients in crisis to determine next steps (i.e. hospitalization, no harm contract, follow up phone call, etc.)
- Open new clients to counseling services as needed. Meet with Services Coordinators about the reasons counseling is being requested, both current and history. Obtain recent ISP, Psychological and face sheet for file.
- Participate in special staffings for counseling clients as needed.
- Participate in CILA home meetings to discuss progress of clients.
- Attend monthly behavior committee meetings to discuss client behavior issues.
- Communicate necessary information regarding client situations to program staff including Service Coordinators, Nurses, BCBAs, and Program Managers.
- Participate in counseling client ISP meetings.
- Complete Incident Reports as needed.
- Follows agency procedure for reporting Incidents of Abuse and Neglect to OIG.
Billing Expectation:
- The Counselor/Social Worker is expected to produce 110 billable hours per month, for a total of 1320 annually. Billable hours are those authorized by Department of Human Services, Division of Developmental Disabilities as therapy/counseling services.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Document counseling sessions and all related materials according to DHS regulations and timelines.
- Maintain the confidentiality of the individuals’ records.
- Complete all billing in Medisked Connect as scheduled.
Minimum requirements
- Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or other related degree, approved by Department of Human Services and eligible for clinical licensure.
- LSW or LPC required.
- Minimum of one year’s experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
- Valid Illinois Driver’s license, vehicle insurance and willingness to use personal vehicle.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $21.74 - $26.18 per hour
