What are the responsibilities and job description for the Advocacy Specialist position at Community Violence Intervention Center?
ADVOCACY SPECIALIST
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in a human services field is required. A bachelor’s degree in social work or master’s degree in social work or counseling with licensure in the state of North Dakota and at least one year of direct social service experience is preferred. Upon hire, the candidate must receive training to become certified by the North Dakota Council on Abused Women’s Services to provide direct service to clients.
COMPENSATION: $21.10-$27.04 per hours based on education and experience. Benefits include a generous leave package including annual leave, sick leave and personal days; 11 paid holidays; health, dental, vision, and life insurance; 403b with employer match; mileage reimbursement for travel and potential eligibility for federal student loan forgiveness. CVIC participates in the ND Working Parents Child Care Relief program.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Crisis Intervention
· Based upon a thorough and current knowledge of the dynamics and signs of domestic violence, sexual assault, suicide, and
child abuse, assess situations reported to the agency and make appropriate decisions regarding intervention to ensure safety of
the victim and minors.
· Make all necessary arrangements to provide safe housing, food, and other necessities to victims and minors during crisis
periods.
Individual Support
· Assist clients with the evaluation of their life situation, the identification of possible courses of action and the establishment of
short- and long-term goals.
· Assist clients with the development of coping skills including assertiveness, self-confidence, problem solving, and decision
making.
Advocacy
· Provide victims with accurate information about the criminal justice system.
· Assist clients with the filing of affidavits for protection orders and other court papers as necessary.
· Accompany victims of sexual assault and domestic violence to legal proceedings and provide appropriate support.
· Accompany victims of sexual assault and domestic violence to the hospital for medical examinations. Provide appropriate
support.
· Provide assistance to clients to support them in becoming self-sufficient.
Referrals
· Be familiar with related agencies and services and provide clients with appropriate referral information.
Record Keeping
· Maintain accurate, complete, and timely records of all client demographics and contacts with clients and other agencies,
according to established procedures.
· Distribute and collect surveys from clients that are seeking crisis and supportive services.
Public Education
· Present relevant information about CVIC to schools and community groups. Demonstrate effective, professional public
speaking skills.
