Wrestling Assistant Coach
Job Summary: The Assistant Wrestling Coach is responsible for conducting varied levels of instruction for folkstyle, freestyle, and Greco wrestling classes, helping with tournaments, and participating in the maintenance of the wrestling facility and equipment. Their duties consist of oversight of their assigned classes, including attendance, executing lesson plans, documenting student achievement, and maintaining an effective classroom environment, with an emphasis on development over competition. Coaches are expected to stay informed and up to date on current methods of instruction.
Work Environment: Coaching duties are conducted primarily at the CYC facility. Practices are held indoors on the campus. Assistant coaches are occasionally required to participate in events outside normal hours that may involve travel to meet the program or center wide needs.
Supervisory Guidance: The assistant coach will report to and take direction from Head Coach who will report and take direction from the Program Director.
Descriptions of Duties:
- Lead wrestling classes for varied age groups from 5-18.
- Assist the head coach in running wrestling classes as needed.
- Clean and maintain wrestling facility and equipment.
- Assist in the conduct of hosted wrestling tournaments.
- Assist coaching during offsite tournaments as needed.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience coaching high school, middle school, and elementary school athletes.
- Work effectively with others in a room filled with active and diverse student athletes.
- Ability to multi-task, and supervise multiple kids while maintaining good discipline and order.
- Ability to build relationships and effectively communicate with active and diverse athletes.
- Ability to provide expectations, set boundaries, and create goals with students.
- In-depth knowledge of sporting strategies.
- Effective interpersonal, motivational, and team leadership skills.
- Ability to demonstrate creativity, sound judgment and decision-making, be an effective problem solver, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Education/Experience: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:
- Knowledge of folkstyle, freestyle, and Greco wrestling.
- Current Leader Membership certified by USA Wrestling
Experience:
- Past experience coaching high school, middle school, or elementary school athletes.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.50 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 15 per week
Schedule:
- After school
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
