What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Dance Coach position at Community Youth Center?
Job Summary:
The Department Head is responsible for providing varied levels of instruction, and the overall development of members within their program. Their duties consist of complete oversight of their program, including staff management, program budget, development and implementation of practice plans, member and coach evaluations, and class progression documentation based on member assessment. Department heads are expected to stay informed and up to date on current methods of instruction.
Work Environment:
Program oversight duties are conducted primarily in an office setting at the CYC facility. Depending on the program, practices may be held either indoors or outdoors on the campus. Head coaches are occasionally required to participate in events outside normal hours that may involve travel in order to meet the program or center wide needs.
Supervisory Guidance:
This position will oversee all subordinate coaches and volunteers within their program. The head coach will report to and take direction from the Program Director who will report and take direction from the Executive Director.
Program Specific Descriptions of Duties:
- Organize, schedule, and supervise appropriate coaches to meet the needs of members.
- Develop, evaluate, monitor, and maintain department budget.
- Develop and document a progression system based on member skill assessment.
- Develop fun, engaging, safe practice plans that include varied levels of instruction.
- Monitor the implementation of instructional methods to maximize member development.
- Facilitate regular staff meetings and assist in creating a professional development plan for staff in consultation with the Program Director.
- Maintain adequate levels of communication and direction to Executive Director, Program Director, staff, and front office staff.
- Establish and enforce rules of conduct.
- Document daily, weekly, monthly class member attendance.
- Attend monthly staff meetings
- Collaborate with the academic program head to identify and help any members in need of academic support.
- Plan and support appropriate competitive opportunities for members.
- Assist Program Director with community partnerships and outreach.
- Support fundraising and other programs as needed.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience coaching high school, middle school, and elementary school youth.
- Ability to supervise multiple kids while maintaining good discipline and order.
- Ability to build relationships and effectively communicate with active and diverse youth.
- Ability to provide expectations, set boundaries, and create goals with students.
- In-depth knowledge of varied dance styles, techniques, strategies, and instruction.
- Effective interpersonal, motivational, and team leadership skills.
- Ability to communicate both effectively.
- Proficient in office software.
Education/Experience:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:
- BFA or BA in Dance
- High school diploma or GED
Experience:
- Experience teaching varied styles of dance to high school, middle school, or elementary school athletes.
- Experience choreographing routines for varied styles of dance.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 32 per week
