Summary
The position of AML Investigator functions as a subject matter expert in Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/Anti-Money Laundering (AML) program and oversees day-to-day triage and investigations within the BSA/AML compliance program. Ensures all AML triggered alerts and referrals are researched, processed, and investigated for potential regulatory reporting as well compliance with other BSA/AML requirements, including: Customer Identification Program (CIP), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the USA Patriot Act.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Utilize the credit union’s internal monitoring systems to monitor and investigate potential AML violations. Fully document investigations and file applicable Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) as required.
- Ensure the timely filing of Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) via the credit union’s BSA/AML software.
- Review and respond in a timely manner to system generated alerts, as well as 314(a) information requests, either during the account opening process, periodic scans of the credit union’s member base and between EDD reviews.
- Conduct periodic EDD review of specific members to ensure BSA compliance and to fill SARs as required.
- Identify and recommend improvements to the credit union’s BSA/AML program to the Team Leader.
- Assists in the development of new and/or updated policies and procedures related to BSA, AML, OFAC and the USA Patriot Act.
- Maintain effective relationships with local, state and federal authorities and follow-up on criminal investigations.
- Assist in training opportunities with credit union employees on BSA/AML related issues and mitigation efforts to detect and report violations of U.S. Patriot Act.
- Provide support to other departments in identifying AML prevention measures.
- Support both the Fraud & Financial Investigations Teams in their efforts to prevent, detect and respond to fraud and AML violations.

Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field with a minimum of five years of experience in BSA/AML investigations or BSA/AML Compliance.
- A minimum of six years of experience as a Financial Crimes Analyst, BSA/AML Analyst or BSA/AML Investigator.
- A combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience writing and/or reviewing regulatory filings.
- A minimum of four years of experience in bank fraud operations as well as regulatory compliance knowledge.
- CAMS certification is required.

- Ability to build strong relationships throughout the credit union, law enforcement, and other outside agencies.

- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong spreadsheet and word processing skills.
- Comfortable presenting to both small and large groups of credit union employees, or community members on BSA Compliance topics.
