Responsibilities and Duties
Under the direction of the PPD (Particle Physics Division) and ETD (Engineering Technology Division) staff, responsibilities include:
- Assisting in the setup of facilities and test environments.
- Preparing detector prototypes and developing final assembly procedures.
- Preparing scintillator samples and conducting light yield measurements.
- Recording results using existing measurement systems and documenting data in Excel.
- Supporting the assembly and production of scintillator detectors.
- Assisting in the operation of the scintillator extrusion line.
- Including both production runs and quality control inspections of extruded components.
- Reporting regularly to the Principal Investigator (PI) of the END project on testing outcomes, assembly progress, and system measurements.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience with radiation detectors, particularly plastic scintillator systems.
- Familiarity with detector assembly processes and mechanical system integration.
- Ability to perform precise measurements and maintain accurate records.
Desired Skills
- Experience working with extruded or fiber scintillator detectors.
- Knowledge of radiation detector readout systems and testing protocols.
- Familiarity with mechanical design and assembly of radiation detection systems.
- Understanding of quality control methods related to detector fabrication.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Associate’s degree in a technical field (engineering, applied physics, or related discipline) preferred.
- Equivalent work experience in lieu of degree will be considered.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency in radiation detector systems and assembly techniques.
