Impact
As a Work Control Planner 4, you’ll play a critical role in supporting high-profile demolition activities in the TA-55 area. Your work will directly impact the safety, efficiency, and compliance of operations across a secure and highly sensitive facility. You will help shape the quality and readiness of the team by providing structure and guidance in a growing, dynamic environment with a mix of experienced and junior planners.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop and review comprehensive work packages for operational, maintenance, and modification tasks.
- Include accurate estimates for time, materials, and labor, ensuring alignment with LANL safety and compliance standards.
- Draft detailed step-by-step work instructions, technical procedures, safety guidelines, and testing protocols.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and craft supervisors to ensure thorough understanding of task requirements.
- Resolve work restraints and ensure timely closure of work packages.
- Maintain and update job documentation and ensure packages meet all quality and regulatory requirements.
- Use software tools including Mobile Work Package systems, Asset Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Support secured facility operations and ensure procedures are appropriate for work in confidential environments.
- Work collaboratively within a 9-person planning team, helping to mentor junior planners and share best practices.
- Uphold LANL’s safety culture and planning discipline throughout all phases of project execution.
Minimum Qualifications
- Proven experience in developing, managing, and finalizing detailed work packages.
- Strong technical writing skills with attention to regulatory compliance and safety.
- Experience with IWD (Integrated Work Document) generation and review.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team within a secure work environment.
- Familiarity with relevant work planning systems and Microsoft Office tools.
- Must be able to obtain Q-Clearance; HRP may be required depending on clearance status.
- Comfortable working onsite in a highly regulated facility (A-Level access required).
- Must be available for overtime (OT) as needed.
Desired Skills
- Planning experience in mechanical, electrical, chemical, or radiological environments.
- Familiarity with LANL systems and work environments is highly desirable.
- Ability to mentor junior planners and work effectively in a team with a mix of experience levels.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to resolve work restraints efficiently.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of related experience
- Substitution: An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered
- Preferred: Postgraduate coursework in a related field
