Job Summary: The Clinic Manager assists and supports the planning, organization, direction, and the overall management, operation, and maintenance of Companion Animal Alliance’s Veterinary Care Department. The Clinic Manager oversees daily responsibilities of veterinary technicians, assistants, and volunteers in the clinic and intake. The Clinic Manager also is responsible for managing inventory and upkeep of supplies and medical equipment in the veterinary clinic.

Compensation based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Directs and monitors all aspects of the constant humane treatment and handling of sheltered animals within intake and the clinic in accordance with CAA policy.
  • Supervise activities of veterinary staff and volunteers, including, but not limited to, the creation of the staff schedule, timecard approvals, and delegation of daily tasks both for intake and clinic needs.
  • Lead daily activities including animal processing, surgical prep, medication administration to the general animal population, and inventory management.
  • Monitors all aspects of veterinary care including cleanliness, temporary housing, flow, and efficiency.
  • Under supervision of the Medical Director, leads group discussions on plans/updates of animals being treated within the veterinary clinic. Guide staff through the discussion of animals for adoption, euthanasia, or transport when necessary.
  • Ensure expedited movement through animal pathways by managing prompt completion of exams, surgery, and other aspects of veterinary care necessary to complete all pre-adoption requirements.
  • In conjunction with the Programs and Operational teams, and all essential staff, Identify animals that need specialized care and ensure their needs are met.
  • Assist in the hiring of new staff which includes reviewing applications, interviewing applicants, hiring, onboarding and training of new staff.
  • Ensures the clinic and intake remains well maintained.
  • Monitors daily activity of intake and the clinic.
  • Contributes to the population by promoting positive outcomes through appropriate and prompt medical care as well as through contributions as a Certified Animal Euthanasia Technician.
  • Manages foster/post-adoption appointments including but not limited to surgery scheduling, sick appointments, and rechecks.

Knowledge and skills required:

  • Follow the mission of CAA.
  • Thorough knowledge of business principles, practices and techniques used in veterinary clinic management.
  • Knowledge of principles of personnel management and ability to plan, direct, and coordinate the work of others through subordinates.
  • Be familiar with all shelter Standard Operating Procedures and the Employee Manual.
  • Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions and animal handling and behavior.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices.
  • Ability to represent CAA in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers and staff.
  • Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within CAA, with volunteers, the public and be a team player.
  • Ability to work with a diversified group of individuals.
  • Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and computerized format.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures.
  • Maintain active CAET license.
  • Minimum 1-2 years animal shelter experience.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of management/supervisor experience.
  • 2-4 years of veterinary field experience.
  • RVT/CVPM licensure preferred but not required.

  • Perform well under stress. Level-headed under pressure and can help reduce stress in staff when challenges arise.
  • Able to stay focused in a busy multi-task environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive and difficult issues in a confidential manner.
  • Able to maintain focus and composure when exposed to emotionally taxing scenarios like abuse/neglect.
  • Open minded, receptive to a wide variety of viewpoints, information and ideas.

Physical requirements:

The work is performed in the veterinary clinic, intake exam rooms, animal housing areas, and shelter surroundings. Typical position requires workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $37,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
