These are the essential requirements to serve in the Community Relations Coordinator role:

Any combination of training/education, and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university preferably in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field .

3 Years of experience in an administrative leadership role in comparable private and/or non-profit sector experience, or related school operations.

Experience working with blended, online, personalized, and/or virtual learning schools preferred.

Working knowledge of marketing/branding and crisis communication techniques and practices.

Works independently with minimal direction, demonstrating creativity in problem-solving and strategic planning..

Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with people both inside and outside of the school.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt to a variety of audiences and circumstances.

A knowledge of applicable state laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Proficient in digital engagement: computer & software skills. (ie Google Suite and Microsoft), social media literacy (ie Twitter, Google Classroom, website navigation), information & communication (email, intranets), Website content management systems (WordPress, Wix, or similar platforms), web & mobile applications, Email marketing platforms, interpersonal & social networking skills, and student/school systems (ie student information system, digital courseware, online learning platforms).
Example duties for the Community Relations Coordinator may include:

Writes, edits, designs, and coordinates the production of publications, including annual reports, board reports, weekly updates, newsletters, and other informational pieces.

Prepares and distributes press releases, arranges media interviews and conferences, and responds to requests for information.

Develops, manages, and executes a comprehensive communications plan, initiating and nurturing relationships with news media and local communities.

Determines and shares news-worthy stories, website and social media content, and appropriate distribution strategies for successful implementation.

Supports staff in the selection and use of communication platforms and best practices within the organization.

Assists in enhancing public relations and communications skills of staff as assigned.

Directs the development of effective techniques for interacting with the media.

Acts as a representative for Compass Charter Schools at community outreach functions, meetings, and events, as needed.

Develops, manages, and executes comprehensive fundraising plans, hosting special giving events.

Leverages analytics and reports to determine the effectiveness and continual improvement of marketing and communication initiatives and plans.

Updates and maintains the school’s website to provide current content and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

Actively participate in the California School Public Relations Association (CalSPRA).
Although the Community Relations Coordinator has unique requirements and duties, we believe that all employees play a critical role in the success of each and every scholar. The following competencies are common across every employee:
Work Environment:
Position is based in an approved home office in the State of California. As the safety, adequacy, and functionality of the approved home office is key, approval must be provided to work from any other location with the exception of the Central Office. May be required to also work from the Central Office, Learning Center, or other Compass location as directed by supervisor or the Superintendent & CEO. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed to meet the needs of scholars, Learning Coaches (parents), and staff. Must be able to travel throughout the State of California for school-related activities. Note - you will be required to notify HR if any work will be performed in San Francisco or out of state for any period of time for review and pre-approval.
Salary : $82,363 - $102,860
