Compass Controls Manufacturing partners with OEMs to create tailored printed circuit boards. We collaborate closely with our clients to design electronic solutions from scratch or enhance existing designs for better performance, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency.
The Materials Planner is responsible for planning, sourcing, procurement, and distribution of materials required for operation and production of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). This role ensures that materials are available when needed, optimizes inventory levels, and manages supplier relationships to maintain quality, reduce costs, and prevent delays in the supply chain. Further responsible for supporting inventory demand forecasting, production floor job scheduling, and customer order management.
Work Schedule
Normal working hours are typically an 8 hour shift within the operating hours of 7:00am - 6:00pm Monday - Friday (80 hours bi-weekly); unless otherwise discussed and/or established by the manager or seasonal schedule changes. From time-to-time additional hours may be required, as needed. This position is expected to work from the office.
Requirements:Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with production planning and sales teams to accurately forecast demand and align material supply with production needs. Assist with creating and adjusting customer order schedules to align with inventory timelines.
- Initiate purchase orders and amendments for parts, services and/or special tools; arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required.
- Monitor and adjust material plans to accommodate changes in production schedules or demand.
- Oversee inventory control practices, including the tracking of raw materials, components, and finished goods to optimize stock levels.
- Implement strategies to minimize excess inventory and reduce obsolescence while maintaining adequate stock to support production goals.
- Develop relationships with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation logistics, inventory control and management, negotiate prices and delivery terms.
- Visit suppliers as needed and perform continuous supplier quality reviews through the use of performance metrics.
- Secure and analyze quotations; negotiate competitive prices and terms with suppliers; and select/qualify suppliers with respect to cost, quality and delivery competitiveness.
- Identify and mitigate risks in the supply chain, including potential disruptions in material availability, price fluctuations, or supplier issues.
- Develop contingency plans to manage unexpected supply chain challenges.
- Communicate, as appropriate, quality matters and engineering changes with suppliers.
- Maintain a sense of urgency, especially when unplanned events arise.
- With the assistance of the Production Team Lead, manage inventory counts and reports to maintain accuracy and determine financial impact of business decisions related to inventory.
- Assist in data maintenance and updates for changes in suppliers, components, and other materials as needed.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree from four year college or university and 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in production planning, preferably in electronics manufacturing.
