Job Description

Compass Government Solutions LLC is looking for a LPN/LVN to provide services for the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) Bethesda. In preparation to bid on this contract, we are seeking qualified candidates willing to be included in our proposal as interested and skilled individuals.

Hours: 12-hour shifts. Schedule received 4 weeks in advance; staffing hrs. can be changed to meet mission requirement


Job requirements

  • Coordinate patient care through a continuum and facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Use the nursing process as a basis for professional practice. The contracted LPN/LVN will demonstrate proper assessment, preparation of patients for treatments and procedures, to include surgical interventions.
  • Perform/assist with clinic specific procedures, in accordance with established policies, and guidelines used in the MTF and IAW JC guidelines. Supervise all paraprofessionals necessary in the care and treatment of the patient.
  • Skill in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers and other clinic specific equipment.
  • Excellent oral communication skills for patient/family education. Prescribes and communicates treatment plans in accordance with established cardiac clinic protocols.
  • Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required. Will be knowledgeable in administrative requirements for the documentation of patient's condition, progress and acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.
  • Demonstrate excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and reacts quickly and appropriately in emergency situations. Must have the ability to obtain, assess, and report critical lab or diagnostic results to patient’s physician in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to act on all medical and therapeutic orders in a timely manner. demonstrate and adhere to peri-operative, infection control and safety policies and procedures used in the MTF and IAW JC guidelines.
  • When assigned, will serve, and participate in functions and other meetings. Provide relevant and timely information and assists with decision-making and process improvement.
  • Will report to the Nurse Manager. Will take direction from charge nurse and house supervisor as required in maintaining a safe environment for staff and patient(s). As required, participate in customer service initiatives and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.
  • When required, participate in the orientation, training, and evaluation of duty performance of newly assigned contract personnel, as appropriate.
  • Contract agencies notify the COR regarding new employee assignment.
  • In-processing data sheets (Employment packets) are sent to the COR.
  • The contract employees are required to display the WRNMMC identification badge while on duty.
  • Contract employees may work for no more than two contract agencies while working for the Department of Nursing.
  • Contract Employees may work no more than 16 hours in a row and no more than 60 hours in a seven (7) day period.
  • Government Employees assigned to WRNMMC are not eligible to work as contract employees in any DoD facility and therefore cannot work at WRNMMC in a contract capacity.
  • Contract employees must provide their own uniform and shall dress in a neat professional manner in good keeping with standard health care practices. Personnel will wear name tag and hospital ID badge at all times while on duty.
  • Contract personnel may be reassigned within their scope of practice at the direction of the Service Chief or Nursing Supervisor

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Diploma of LPN or LVN, from and accredited National League of Nursing (NLN) approved program.
  • Licensure /Certifications: Valid, unrestricted, LPN/LVN license at least 1 state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S. Basic Life Support required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALs) as required by contracted MTF.
  • Minimum Experience: continuously employed in the practice of Licensed Practical Nurse for 1 year prior to start of work at the MTF.
  • Registration: Valid, unrestricted, LPN/LVN license at least 1 state, territory, or commonwealth of the US
  • Read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
  • Knowledgeable of equipment and supply terminology and skill sufficient to identify and use necessary equipment and supplies properly and to communicate proper use with nurses, medical staff, patients, and family members.
  • Skilled to teach patients proper self-care and to motivate patients and family members to continue the procedures for promoting rapid healing.
  • Knowledgeable and possess skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age- related needs of the patients. The Contract LPN/LVN shall demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the appropriate patient population served: Adults, and Geriatric (18 and above). Assess, coordinate, facilitate, deliver and evaluate care for infant to geriatric patients using the nursing process.
  • Maintain qualifications and skills of a Licensed Practical Nurse as confirmed by completion of the Skills Checklist and verified by the clinical manager. Successfully complete the unit specific orientation and competency skills checklist within the first 3 shifts. Maintain competency verification programs in accordance with unit, WRNMMC, JC guidelines.
  • Assess, coordinate, facilitate, deliver, and evaluate care for infant to geriatric patients using the nursing process.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of medical disorders/conditions, diagnostic studies and treatments related to prevention, and detection of illnesses in adults, is desirable.
  • The contracted LPN/LVN will be knowledgeable in professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to perform nursing assignments of moderate difficulty and experience in assessing adult and geriatric patients, as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in conduct to include but not limited to interactions with other team members, willingness to admit areas where improvement in skill is needed, honesty in documentation of work hours and leave requests, receive, and respond to feedback provided by other members of the team.
