Job Summary:
We are looking for a Senior Director, Software Engineering to define and deliver a vision for innovation and application modernization, incorporate new technologies, and reaching our partners in new ways. Successful candidates will excel at collaborating with end users, influencing technical topics with engineers and developing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as a Senior Director, Software Engineering, leading multiple lean teams to develop and enhance application features
- Responsible for growing, oversight/governance, and coordinating multiple product development teams.
- Demonstrated ability to grow well rounded development teams and create a sustainable / resilient organization.
- Provides technical direction, evangelism, oversight, and contribution to technology decisions
- Has a deep understanding and knowledge of software development techniques and technologies.
- Is an unflappable leader who can determine, recognize, and manage priorities, negotiate tradeoffs, and navigate business driven needs all while keeping systems alive and operational, dealing with unexpected situations as they arise.
- Forecast and maintain budgets and controls.
- Understands both software development and development operations/Devops.
- Partners with product management and development teams to establish product delivery teams, create roadmaps and ensure there is a shared understanding of product/business objectives, while meeting established standards, procedures, and practices.
- Ensures that software development teams have the resources they need to deliver software products and meet objectives, managing budgets and vendors.
- Works with team to de-risk objectives, estimate and size work, establishes and ensures team metrics are captured and exposed.
- Provide coaching on the adoption and improvement of agile/lean management and engineering practices on teams.
- Tracks and ensures visibility of historical team metrics and progress of the Iteration and release.
- Fosters a culture of continuous improvement through maintenance of metrics, team retrospectives, change management, and encouraging risk taking.
- Is collaborative in driving decisions and team behavior, guarding against making decisions and assignments for the team and instead creates and environment where teams have the context needed to make the best decision.
- Proactively identifies and removes blockers, limits work in progress and prevents distractions.
- Demonstrates effective and efficient capability in identifying, proposing, and soliciting innovative solutions to complex, time-critical challenges.
- Teach, coach, measure product, engineering, design, and devops practices to product teams.
- Collaborate and work closely with internal partners. From the business to software engineering, infrastructure, and analytics, fostering sound relationships with coworkers across the company to support their efforts while delivering well-managed services at scale.
- Advocate for the latest technology patterns (cloud, BI etc.) that are relevant to establishing Compass as a leader in technology- Consult with the executive team and the IT leadership the new technology and its implications in the industry
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's in related field, or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in leading development of software products, with 10 years management/leadership
- Must have exceptional written and verbal communication and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to operate with transparency and openness
Desired Skills:
- 7 years of experience in building cloud enterprise products
- 7 years of experience working on data transformation projects
- 7 years of experience translating business strategy and analysis into digital solutions
- Existing director experience leading multiple managerial teams and product lines
- Experience in an Agile culture with the proven ability to coach teams and stakeholders in practice adoption and maturity
- MBA or advanced education preferred
