This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Bridge Engineer to provide technical expertise and oversight for a rapidly growing firm. We have recently expanded into Kentucky from our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. Our ideal candidate has excellent technical bridge skills and leadership abilities. The position is well suited to an engineer that enjoys being the task leader on bridge projects, serving as a mentor for junior staff development, and implementing design and quality control processes. The position may have project management responsibilities from time to time but promoting the technical excellence of our bridge staff is the primary responsibility.

Founded in 2020, Compass Infrastructure Group offers civil engineering design and project management services, specializing in bridge and highway design, safety studies, inspections, constructability, and other transportation related services. Compass has grown to over 42 employees and works as a consultant for transportation projects primarily with public clients including ODOT and local governments throughout Ohio and Kentucky. As a result of this success, we have worked on over 100 transportation projects in four years and have developed a steady backlog of diverse and exciting transportation projects. Job Description:
You will serve as a critical technical resource in the firm’s bridge practice by leading bridge tasks, implementing quality control, and mentoring junior staff.
Responsibilities will include:
· Serve as lead bridge engineer for a wide variety of bridge project types
· Perform complete bridge design of major and minor bridges
· Review and/or check bridge designs bridge inspection reports, load ratings, and bridge plans and specifications
· Develop and implement standard practices and procedures for bridge projects
· Ensure quality by implementing Compass’s quality control procedures
· Mentor new staff as the firm grows
· Participate in new project pursuits by providing preliminary investigations and technical approaches for proposals
· Monitor scope compliance, schedule conformance, and budget for bridge tasks
What You Bring:
· Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering
· Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification required
· 6-8 years of bridge design experience
· KYTC Experience or Ability to obtain ODOT Level 1 Bridge Design is required
· ODOT Level 2 Bridge Design Prequalification is a plus
· Proven hands-on experience in all aspects of bridge design projects
· Ability to work independently preparing engineering reports, calculations, and overseeing plan development
· Experience preparing reports, plan packages, and proposals
· Detail oriented person capable of leading bridge tasks and being the engineer of record for bridge projects
· Willingness to mentor less experienced staff
· Excellent communication skills
· Cooperative, team-oriented spirit
· Familiarity with engineering software packages such as: OpenBridge Designer, MDX, AASHTOWare BrR, LPile, and more.
