GPS Field Survey Technician

The Position: We’re looking for a GPS Field Survey Technician with a good understanding of GIS, Photogrammetry, LiDAR, and Trimble GPS equipment. A good candidate will be self-motivated, technically savvy, able to travel within a week to two weeks’ notice and can use Google/Microsoft products such as Google Earth and Microsoft Excel.
Responsibilities:
- Travel planning to survey locations including booking flights, rental cars, and hotels
- Utilize Trimble GPS units to collect high precision GPS data
- Carefully document surveyed locations in field sketches, photos, and field notes
- Transfer data from GPS, scan in field sketches, and upload the data on a nightly basis to our FTP servers
- Identify & Survey National Geodetic Survey Monuments
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Degree or an Associate Degree
- A valid driver’s license and US Citizenship
- Ability to travel and stay in remote locations for days to weeks at a time
- Must be able to obtain General Liability insurance and adhere to our Sub Contractor requirements
- Possess excellent interpersonal/intrapersonal skills. Organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate in both verbal and written form is imperative.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently independently.
- Willingness to problem-solve and troubleshoot field equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Survey, Geography, Geosciences or related field.
- Experience with LiDAR equipment and software products for processing data.
- Experience with Total Station and GPS hardware/software (Trimble, Leica, etc.)
- Computer/Tablet proficiency on Windows, iOS, and Android.
Pay Range: $250 - $400 per day
The Location: CompassData Inc. is based in Englewood, CO. The work is 100% in the field and does not require you to come in to the office. We have hired surveyors all around the U.S. and even have some living outside of the U.S.
