What are the responsibilities and job description for the Billing Specialist position at Compassion Health Care?
Compassion Health Care (CHC) provides the highest quality of comprehensive primary, preventative and behavioral health services to all, regardless of insurance status and ability to pay, especially for the underserved and vulnerable. CHC is a rural Federally Qualified, Non-Profit Health Center serving communities in Caswell County, Rockingham County, Eden and the surrounding counties. CHC is currently seeking a full-time Billing Specialist.
The Billing Specialist will be responsible for a variety of duties related to the billing functions which includes being responsible for auditing provider charges, coding of medical services, posting personal payments, and managing the Sliding Fee program. Working claims and denials, collecting overdue payments, and making sure patients are on a payment plan as needed. Working with front desk to help solve insurance verification issues, and ensuring payments are collected. Special projects as assigned by the Revenue Cycle Manager. Position may cross train to run e-Clinical month end reports and perform credentialing duties.
The Billing Specialist may also perform other duties as their skills and training permit and may be cross trained to assist in other areas as business needs dictate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Audits provider charges each day and verifies diagnosis codes, etc. are properly utilized
- Post personal payments and provides receipts according to CHC protocols
- Manages the Sliding Fee program:
- Explains the S/F program to patients
- Assist patients with enrollment process for S/F
- Maintains database of S/F patients and sends correspondence as needed
High school diploma required; certification in medical office coding is preferred. Previous experience, excellent customer service skills, and computer proficiency are required. Demonstrated experience working in a diverse employment setting working collaboratively with other employees of CHC considered an advantage.
The selected candidate must meet CHC's employment eligibility requirements, including but not limited to, successfully completing pre-employment drug testing and criminal background screening.
Pay is based on credential and experience. Please note before applying that this is a M-F, no holidays or weekends position, in a family practice setting, and the pay is based on those factors.
