What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Peer Counselor OAN IT position at Compassionate Addiction Treatment?
We are seeking new team members that are passionate about recovery and compassionate towards our most vulnerable community members.
Compassionate Addiction Treatment (CAT) is collaborating with other local jails to provide peer support, housing and employment case management, and navigation to people currently incarcerated and soon to be formerly incarcerated individuals. We will have a two person team entering the local jails, working collaboratively with individuals as well as with other local service providers. This team will focus on building relationships with individuals, providing wholistic support and navigation to individuals throughout the process. Peer counselors will help individuals in identifying their goals and dreams, and navigation to other providers to support identified goals, to include housing and employment, when released. Peer counselors will continue this journey with each person until they are stabilized.

Additional services provided at Compassionate Addiction Treatment are IOP/OP, Certified Peer Counselors, MAT, Employment Case Management, Housing Case Management, Wound Care, and other services for our community members who are or have experienced homelessness. Compassionate Addiction Treatment is establishing a cooccurring program. We use Seeking Safety as a core program component.
This position includes:
- Meet with each person on your caseload and walk them through the steps to access behavioral health assessments, medical care, housing and employment case management, and other services based on each individuals goals.
- Monitor progress and report/document as required.
- Work as a team with other team members and community members
- Consult with supervisor
- Lead support groups
- Lead, teach or assist with life skills classes with clients.
- Remain in compliance with all internal and external policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
- Participate in staff meetings, safety meetings and trainings.
- Maintain a self-care plan for yourself
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- Be certified with Washington State as a peer support counselor or working on the certification. *Initial 8 hours of state training must be completed. The additional 40 hours of training may be done as a paid "on the job training"
- Apply for and maintain Washington State Affiliated Counselor licensure
- Have a stable recovery and a good support group
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Willingness to learn
- Sensitivity to cultural diversity and workplace/collaboration harmony
- Self-directed and flexible to meet the needs of clients while still maintaining healthy boundaries.
- Must be willing to work on site at local jails and work with currently and formerly incarcerated individuals
- Lived experience with incarceration is required
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour
