Substitute Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Day Care Substitute Teacher is responsible for classroom management and tending to the children’s individual needs. The Day Care Substitute Teacher will help create and implement classroom activities in accordance with the daily routines, curriculums, and philosophy of the Compassionate Love Day Care Center.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS:

• Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education OR 60 college credits with 6 in Early Childhood Education OR a High School Diploma with a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential
• Knowledge of the Department of Children and Family Services Standards and Regulations for Day Care Centers
• Knowledge of the Illinois Early Learning Standards
• Must or willing to be certified or trained in CPR and First Aid/AED Infants and Children, Mandated Reporter, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID), Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS), and the Safe Sleep Recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics or be willing to attain certification and training.

MIN REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma

ESSSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Shall treat each child with dignity and respect
• Create a safe learning environment for children
• Will establish and maintain a positive relationship with families and visitors
• Will promote the Day Care programs in a positive manner
• Shall be flexible and resourceful to the program
• Will work as an active team member with the other Day Care staff
• Will guide and mentor the Day Care Assistant Teacher
• Greet families upon arrival and dismissal
• Shall develop and post detailed weekly lesson plans using the Illinois Early Learning Standards for all age groups enrolled in the classroom. Lesson plans will be submitted to the Day Care Director by Wednesday of the previous week along with samples
• Shall maintain children’s portfolios
• Send notes home to families as needed
• Maintain room design, decorations, and bulletin boards
• Create and maintain learning centers
• Responsible for inventory of supplies and materials needed for the classroom
• Attend one monthly staff meeting to be held by the Day Care Director
• Follow Day Care health and safety policies and procedures as outlined in state and local standards and regulations

• Perform weekly cleaning and sanitizing of the entire center per the direction of the Day Care Director
• Disperse snacks and lunch to the children in the classroom
• Check that children have required materials: food/snacks, clothing, blankets, diapers, and wipes
• Inform the Day Care Director of any accidents, incidents, safety concerns, maintenance problems, or complaints
• Follow formal procedures for accident and incident reports
• Carry out other duties as assigned by the Day Care Director

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Requires frequent, standing, bending, sitting, walking, reaching, kneeling
• Requires occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:

• Employee performs most activities indoors. Indoor environmental conditions will include lighting and temperature
• Employee may perform some activities outside in various weather conditions

• Possess Knowledge of early childhood education and child development
• Must have the ability to plan and create lesson plans which inspire children to exercise proper courtesy, social skills, and respect for others
• Must be patient and compassionate and have the ability to create a warm learning environment
• Possess the ability to work well with the general public, parents/guardians, peers, and other employees

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 1 – 40 per week
