About the Role
The Chief Engineer's primary responsibility is the Operations staff assigned to operate the Central Utility Plant (CUP). Ensure proper operation and maintenance of facility chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and associated equipment. Perform all administrative tasks including but not limited to scheduling, reports, work planning, ensuring personnel perform all tasks safely, efficiently, and effectively.
Responsibilities to include:
- Ensure staff operate and maintain site-critical Engineering systems and equipment that supply the facility with heat, utility and conditioned power, ventilation, air conditioning and other environmental and critical systems in accordance with diagrams, operating manuals, industry best practices, and manufacturers specifications
- Supervises and lead assigned personnel, maintaining a safe and efficient work place
- Support staff with the engineering systems
- Monitor and control building equipment; operate facility's Building Automation System
- Operate an maintain critical systems such as HVAC, UPS, generators, batteries, switchgear, life safety and building automated systems
- Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are updated and maintained
- Demonstrate competency in other disciplines such as HVAC, plumbing and/or electrical
- Ability to plan, organize and meet project deadlines
- Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and prioritize work, as required
- Demonstrate working knowledge of engineering and building system
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
- Shall be available for emergency contact via cell phone twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week, 365 days a year
- Shall be available to work flexible hours as required in response to emergency situations
- Excellent written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, CMMS and project tracking software
- Responsible for the building's systems including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and the supervision of technicians
- Develop and implement plans and schedules to achieve company and department goals
- Develop processes, procedures and standards for the facilities operational performance
- Read and understand contract and RFP requirements
- Create an atmosphere of professionalism and mutual support among employees
- Review work performance of subordinates
- Manage and maintain the completion of the facilities scheduled PM's through the CMMS
- Assist with environmental compliance
You Should Have
The Chief Engineer, shall possess the following:
- Top Secret/SCI Clearance is required
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive and hands-on experience in an environment of similar proportions and mission as the assigned area of responsibility
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in facilities maintenance with thorough understanding of electrical systems, controls, generators, and life safety systems, including 5 years related experience in data center or complex mission critical environments
- Must possess an active HVAC Master or Journeyman or Stationary Engineers license First Grade or higher in Virginia, Maryland, or District of Columbia and EPA - CFC Universal
- Must have strong HVAC and Controls background for systems and equipment to include such items as but not limited to: Chillers, Boilers, AHUs, Computer Room Air Conditioners (CRACs) VAV's, FCU's and BAS Controls
- Fire and Life Safety systems, as well as sprinkler systems
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Requires verbal, written, multi-tasking and presentation skills. Ability to motivate and foster organizational proactive approach
- Manage and supervise personnel in all administrative functions
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload
