Location:1406 Wall Street NE, Cullman, AL 35055
Pay: $16.80-$21.76
Schedule:8am-6pm (4 days per week- includes some weekend days)
Summary:
Assists in examination and treatment of patients under direction of healthcare providers and serves patients by greeting and helping them; scheduling appointments; maintaining records and accounts, checking in and checking out patients, collecting payment and verifying insurance as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Interviews patients, accurately takes vital signs such as: manual BP, pulse rate, temperature, 02 level, weight and height, and properly records information into EMR.
- Prepares exam rooms for examination of patients as well as stocking them.
- Hands instruments and materials to provider as directed for certain procedure.
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
- Performs EKG's, urinalysis, strep test, flu test, covid test, mono test, pregnancy test, checks patients A1C, etc.
- Gives injections per providers orders (intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous).
- Handles portal messages from patients, refill medications, order additional labs or imaging as needed, complete prior authorizations, complete precertification for imaging, etc.
- Must have effective communication skills and instructs patient and/or their family as directed by the provider.
- Call patients to discuss results as directed by the provider while maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Keys data into EMR to maintain office and patient records.
- May be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time as needed or as directed by supervision (i.e. assist with patient check-in).
- Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone, answering or referring inquiries.
- Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone.
- Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying provider of patient's arrival; reviewing service delivery compared to schedule; reminding provider of service delays.
- Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties; answering patients' questions; maintaining the reception area.
- Ensures availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records.
- Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.
- Obtains revenue by recording and updating financial information; recording and collecting patient charges; controlling credit extended to patients; filing, collecting, and expediting third-party claims.
- Maintains business office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; scheduling equipment service and repairs.
- Helps patients in distress by responding to emergencies.
- Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
- Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

- Clinical Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant active certificate; OR equivalent from two-year college or technical school; OR six months to one-year related experience and/or training.
- Must be coachable and work within a team environment, helping peers as needed.
- Must have a positive attitude and embrace the "we are all one team" acumen.
- Knowledge of Word Processing software; Internet software, EMR systems (Athena preferred), and Database software.
- Experience as a front desk medical receptionist preferred.
- Skillful and knowledgeable in all aspects relating to the front office of a busy medical clinic.
- Must be a caring and compassionate person able to put patients at ease using excellent communication skills.
- Computer proficiency is required and software such as EMR (Athena and Epic), Word, Excel, and other programs are strongly preferred.
- Must be able to read and write legibly.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- The ability to travel to nearby clinics as needed.
