The successful candidate will be responsible for performing venipuncture and skin punctures competently and expediently, as well as assisting in the Clinical Laboratory as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform blood draws competently and expediently with minimal patient discomfort
- Demonstrate knowledge of color-coded top tubes, blood volume requirements, and test specifications
- Identify patients using two identifiers (first and last name, date of birth)
- Maintain specimen integrity through proper aseptic technique and departmental procedures
- Ensure accurate, efficient, and timely processing and handling of all specimens
- Refer unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification
- Provide test results for patient diagnosis and treatment by operating hematology, urinalysis, and chemistry analyzers
- Research specimen requirements for reference labs and arrange for critical specimen handling and transportation
- Prioritize daily tasks and adjust schedule as needed for STATs, out-patients, and time draws
- Maintain work area cleanliness and stock supplies properly
- Perform analyzer maintenance and document on analyzer logs
- Maintain daily logs and track collected specimens
- Document specimen collection and testing accurately using the LIS system
- Recognize system failures and report inconsistent or erroneous patient results
- Organize work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling and reporting systems
Requirements:
- 1 year of experience as a phlebotomist
- High School Diploma
- CPT Certification
- Skills and knowledge in all aspects related to drawing blood
- Experience with LIS system
