Location: 70 Plaza Drive Pell City, AL 35125. Will require travel to other AL clinics as needed
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
Pay Range: $24-27 per hour, dependent on experience
SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES:
The Phlebotomy Supervisor will manage phlebotomists at all locations excluding Core Lab and includes supervision of various levels of phlebotomy staff. Extensive travel is required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Interview and participate in hiring of new phlebotomy staff; onboard new hires; onboard new equipment as needed.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
- Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and fingersticks.
- Manage training of all phlebotomy staff and evaluate competency to ensure proper protocol on all procedures are being performed.
- Manage and review all workflows pertaining to phlebotomy staff to ensure proper and efficient workflows are in place and followed.
- Coordinate with Ancillary Integration Manager to ensure POC analyzers are working properly and help with troubleshooting if necessary.
- Coordinate with QA/QC staff to ensure phlebotomy staff are adhering to policies and procedures.
- Manages corrective action, PIPs, and accommodations for direct reports with consent and guidance from HR Department.
- Performs yearly performance evaluations of direct reports.
- Coordinates with HR Department to evaluate and promote employee retention practices.
- Coordinates with HR Department to ensure all aspects of temp. service utilization are met including but not limited to time sheets, onboarding, and training.
- Supervises phlebotomy staff to ensure specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures, observing isolation procedures are performed adequately.
- Verifies test requisitions by comparing the information with Athena requisitions, bringing discrepancies to the attention of clinical personnel.
- Coordinate with practice management on training clinical staff on proper ordering of laboratory test.
- Verifies patient by reading patient identification.
- Collects therapeutic drug-monitoring assays by collaborating with lab personnel to ensure appropriate drug dose to collection time.
- Manages proper data collection of collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed at all locations excluding Core Lab.
- Manages all aspects of phlebotomy training and coaching for best practices.
- Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the physician, pathologist, MAS, or reference laboratory; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; maintaining unresolved orders.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Adheres to professional standards, clinic policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
- Enhances the phlebotomy department's reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Knowledge of billing/coding for lab procedures
- Manage the work, time and attendance, schedules and conflict resolution with all phlebotomy staff at assigned locations.
- Travel required to remote sites to meet with lab staff as needed to perform all supervisory duties. Travel may be extensive.
- Manages supply inventory at all responsible locations to ensure all needed supplies are available.
- Evaluate supply formulary to ensure highest level of cost savings are being utilized.
- Inventories and requisitions medical laboratory supplies and materials; stocks work
areas as needed.
- Coordinate with vendors to resolve issues with orders, specimens, and results that may occur.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 5 years of experience as a phlebotomist
- At least 2 years of leadership / management experience
- Skillful and knowledgeable in all aspects related to lab (Including Billing/Coding)
- Experience with processing CLIA waived Point of Care tests and CLIA moderate CBC/Sysmex and other analyzers is required.
