A well-established financial institution, is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join their dynamic team. This role will play a key part in managing the organization’s accounting functions, including oversight of both internal financial operations and its affiliated service organizations. The Assistant Controller will ensure financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and data security across the board, while maintaining a robust system of internal controls and procedures.

- Lead and manage a skilled accounting team, fostering a motivated, high-performing staff and conducting regular performance evaluations to ensure top-quality work and service.
- Assist in the preparation, review, and distribution of financial reports and statistical analyses for internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- Support the Controller and CFO in the development and ongoing maintenance of financial reporting systems, including month-end closing processes, Board reports, Asset-Liability Committee (ALCO) reports, and annual audits.
- Oversee the financial close process, ensuring accuracy in financial statements, accruals, prepaid expenses, suspense accounts, and general ledger entries.
- Contribute to the organization’s annual budget preparation by gathering, analyzing, and formalizing data necessary for budget creation for both the institution and its service organizations.
- Aid in the maintenance and analysis of asset-liability data for financial modeling and planning purposes.
- Assist in reviewing and reporting all mortgage-related accounting activities, including interest accruals, service fees, loan portfolio management, and records for loan sales and payoffs.
- Provide detailed analysis and recommendations on the organization’s lines of business, products, and services to enhance financial performance.
- Manage the investment accounting and administrative functions, ensuring compliance and accuracy in reporting.
- Collaborate with the Controller and CFO on developing and tracking key financial and statistical metrics aligned with the organization’s strategic goals.
- Contribute to disaster recovery planning and assist in critical activities during a recovery event to ensure business continuity.
- Oversee the accounting for various loan reporting entities, ensuring accurate data management and compliance.
- Assist the Controller with filings and regulatory requirements at federal, state, and local levels.
- Support the Controller in completing timely and accurate general ledger reconciliations across all entities.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in a similar or related accounting role.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
- Equivalent to a college degree with professional certification or a graduate degree in accounting or a related field.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, essential for supervising an accounting team and interacting with various stakeholders.
- Proven ability to tackle complex problems, requiring creativity and resourcefulness.
- Deep understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and a solid grasp of financial concepts.
